Update on the boys...

The boys continue to grow, change, and develop each and every day.  They are our "little men" now.

Earlier this month, the boys celebrated their first St. Nick day.  St. Nick was very kind and brought the boys a dinosaur toy on wheels that they can walk behind, and eventually ride on.  Jackson took right to it, and was buzzing around the kitchen in NO time.  Since he was doing so well with the toy, I decided on 12/7 I would try putting him a few steps away from me to see how he did - and he took 4 steps to me!  Of course, he wouldn't show the Muehlfeld clan this new talent when we celebrated Christmas on 12/11, but on Christmas Eve, he did quite well when we were celebrating Christmas with the Hart's.  He's still just taking a few steps at a time, but he's getting stronger every day.

Lincoln was apprehensive of the dinosaur, but after a few days, he decided he could handle it.  He grins from ear to ear pushing it around.  Sometimes, his feet can't keep up with him.  He is starting to take a few steps on his own, but most of the time he just leaps for me or Brian - forgetting to move his feet.  He'll catch on soon enough, and then we'll really be in trouble.

What else is new with the boys?  Well, Jackson finally sprouted a second tooth!  His other bottom tooth (right bottom as you look at him) popped through on 12/9 when the boys spent the day at home with daddy (they were under the weather, running a bit of a fever).  His top two front teeth are starting to come down, so although he didn't get his "two front teeth" for Christmas, I have no doubt they will be here before his first birthday!

Lincoln is holding at 6 teeth currently, but he's been drooling and chewing on everything.  I probably need to get brave and put my finger in his mouth and check things out.  However, he's been biting, and those little teeth are sharp!

The boys are REALLY good at giving "high fives".  They laugh and giggle when their hand connects with mine.  They still love to "Patty cake", enjoy hearing the "ABC's" (thank goodness, or we would never get their diapers back on), and are growing quite fond of the "Itsy Bitsy Spider".  I guess all in all, they love being sung to - even if I'm not the best singer in the world.

The boys talk more and more each day.  Lincoln gave me the best Christmas present when he finally said "MaMa" a few days before.  For a while we would have "arguments" - I would say MaMa, and he would say DaDa....and laugh.  Now he says both MaMa and DaDa, as well as BaBa, and other random syllables.

They both continue to enjoy food - pretty much whatever you put in front of them.  They still love their fruit though - bananas, berries, pear, applesauce.  They are so much like their daddy in that respect!
They love sweet potatoes, and of course pumpkin pie!  They eat whatever I make for Brian and I for dinner, and we really don't have too many problems with them being picky about things.

Hard to believe that they are 11 months old.  We are planning their birthday party, and look forward to celebrating this first milestone.

Hope everyone is well, and we'll write more soon.

Love,
Kate, Brian, Lincoln and Jackson

Something I forgot...

The boys are "visiting" the Tiny Tot room!
Ok...let me break it down.  The boys are currently in the infant room at daycare.  However, they are definitely more advanced than the other kids in their room.  So, the next step is to transition into the Tiny Tot room.
This will mean a different schedule for them - snack at 9:00, lunch at 11:00.  Then napping from noon to 2:00 (this part could be challenging with my boys!).  Then another afternoon snack before mom and dad pick them up around 5:00.  Please pray and keep your fingers crossed that the boys adjust to this new schedule quickly.
To help ease them into the transition, they have the boys visit for short periods of time to begin, then they keep extending the amount of time that they spend there.

Jackson went over for one afternoon last week.  He had a lot of fun playing with all the "big kids".  Today, both boys went over and spent some time playing, and they are both very tired tonight.  (Hopefully this means I get to sleep for more than 3 hours!)  Tomorrow, they are planning to have the boys visit for most of the day, including trying the new feeding/snack schedule.  So, it appears that they will be Tiny Tots in no time!  See, I told you my babies are growing up!

Who are these two little boys?

Each year, we struggle to get through the holiday season.  So much to do, and no free time!
This year, we have even more to do now that our family is double the size.  But before we get carried away with the hussle and bustle of shopping, decorating, and traveling, I want to share a snipet of life with our boys.

Last night, all four of us were sitting on the living room floor playing after dinner.  We didn't have any toys...we were just crawling around, giggling, tickling, talking, and enjoying the moment.  One of the boys started to crawl out to the kitchen, and I called to him....Jackson (sing song).  And in the blink of an eye, he turned around and looked at me.  Next, I said something about Lincoln, and then his little head spun around to see what I wanted.
They recognize their names, and they are starting to respond to them!  This is fun!

We continued playing, and a few minutes later, one of the boys perched into a sitting position, and started clapping.  The other one followed suit.  We've been playing "patty cake" for the past few weeks, and they have now figured out how to clap!  They get so excited - big smiles across their faces as they sit and clap their hands.  It's truly amazing how much these little guys learn!
Patty cake has been a wonderful blessing in our house.  We now use it to assist in cleaning them up after meals - I ask for patty cake number 1, and they give me one hand.  After wiping that off, I ask for patty cake number 2, and they hold out the other hand.  It's so much easier than fighting with them to get them cleaned up!  They still don't like having their faces washed, but we are working on that!

We are also finding creative ways teach the boys what they should and shouldn't get into.  Don't get me wrong, we still have a LONG way to go, so if anyone has suggestions, we are open to them!
The one thing that has been working for the past week is making a beeping sound whenever we get ready to close something that they are getting into (the refrigerator, pantry, dishwasher, etc.).  Brian started it...BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP (imagine the sound a big truck makes when it is backing up), and we tell them to back up as the door is closing.  Amazingly, they are starting to learn that when mommy or daddy make that noise, they need to back up before the door closes.  Smart little boys!

Each day is more fun than the last right now.  I see what they are learning, new skills they are developing, and cherish each time they react or interact with us.  It is a little sad to think that my babies are growing up, but it is also exciting to think about what the future holds for ALL of us!

Milestones
  • Jackson
    • officially "graduated" out of his helmet on Monday.  We had his final measurement appointment, and he's continuing to grow, and his head is growing symetrically, so NO MORE HELMET!!!!  (Can you tell I'm excited?)
    • continuing to go to physical therapy every other week for his neck.  The muscle is stretched, but we really need to be diligent in strengthening it now, so he holds his head up straight
    • stands for long periods of time, and has tried to take that first step several times - but usually stumbles.  I think he'll be walking by the end of the year though - he has such strong legs!
    • still only the 1 lone bottom tooth, but the second one is trying really hard to pop through!
    • has a million dollar smile that melts my heart every time I see it
    • has the most unique and infectious laugh...you just want to tickle him all the time!
    • is quite the talker - especially in Meijer grocery shopping!  (Hope we didn't embarrass daddy too much!)
  • Lincoln
    • pulls himself up on everything.  will stand for long periods of time while holding on - but still not sure about letting go!
    • has perfected the "death grip" on legs - you just about can walk with him holding onto you!
    • has 6 teeth - 2 on the bottom, 4 on the top.  He's been drooling and chewing on everything again though, so keep an eye out for more updates!
    • is a bit more shy and reserved in public areas, or around large groups, but let's his true personality shine more and more through that toothy grin!
    • has the "quiet laugh" that is precious...you may not necessarily hear him laugh, but it is written all over his face!
    • is the "thinker"...he gives us looks occasionally like "why does his bottle have stuff in it, but mine is empty"
    • is very patient and content - sitting in his high chair waiting to be cleaned up after his brother
So, as you can see, we have two happy, busy little boys who fill our lives with wonder, amazement, and love each and every moment of the day.

We wish you all a very safe, blessed, and happy holiday time.  We hope you all find a few precious moments to cherish the extraordinary in your everyday life.

Love to all,
Kate, Brian, Lincoln, and Jackson

A Thankful long week...

Throughout the month of November, we all have reflected on what we are thankful for in our lives.  For me, family is always at the core of what I am most thankful for.
So, it was only fitting that we spent the week of Thanksgiving preparing to spend precious time together.

The weekend before the holiday was challenging, as Brian and I have been fighting bronchitis and sinus infections for over a week.  The boys have been a bit fussy as well, and not sleeping well.  Despite all of that, we were able to prepare for our visitors, and weren't too exhausted once they arrived!
The Muehlfeld clan arrived on Wednesday - Lyn, RJ, Lylah, and Knox along with Uncle Aaron were here for dinner.  Mom and Dad arrived later - stressed out from the drive.  Unfortunately, the weather wasn't exactly what we were hoping for.  But, everyone arrived safely, and we enjoyed an evening of catching up and enjoying some cold beverages.
Thursday lunch was fabulous as usual.  The turkey was perfect, as was the stuffing (thanks mom!).  The green bean casserole, sweet potatoes, salad and rolls were great accompaniments.  Pumpkin pie, pecan pie, and Grandma Wappes' cheesecake were the perfect toppers.  Although it was challenging with the extra additions since last year, we were all able to gather around the table and share our meal.  Lincoln napped a bit later than expected, but he made it up for dessert!  It was a very joyous celebration!
The Willinger's left shortly after lunch to head to Louisville to continue the Thanksgiving celebration.  We relaxed and enjoyed the rest of the day, catching up on some sleep, and chasing the boys.  Friday was a busy day canning chicken, freezer shopping, and just spending time together.
Saturday we hosted the celebration for the OSU/UM game.  Nothing major, just our family, then Dick and Brenda Willnger stopped along with Grandma Kathy.  It was nice to spend time with our extended family.  All in all, a great day.
Sunday started with church at 9:00, then a whirlwind of a breakfast at Bob Evans.  Why a whirlwind?  well, with 2 hungry little boys, it flys by very quickly.  I couldn't cut the potatoes, sausage, and pancakes fast enough for them!  Even some of the other guests were laughing at how much and how quickly the boys ate.  They were covered in syrup and pancakes from head to toe, and I think their bellies were filled to the brim, but they enjoyed every bite!
After breakfast, it was time to watch as family packed up, said goodbye, and headed home.  It's always a little sad after they leave.  The house returns to it's previous quiet, the rooms are all empty, and the laundry is waiting.
We made the most out of the day though.  The boys took a nap with their full bellies, and Brian and I began working on the Christmas tree.  We almost had the branches up when the boys awoke.  We brought the exersaucers into the front room so that we could keep them contained, yet finish decorating the tree.  The boys were pretty patient, with the assistance of some baby gold fish (Thanks Great-Aunt Marie!).
The end result - the tree is up, the stockings are hung, and the laundry is partially caught up.
So now, it is time to start preparing for the week ahead.  Much to do to prepare for celebrating Christmas in 2 weeks with my family.  Shopping, wrapping, Christmas cards, birthday invitations....we'll be taking advantage of every second we can get!

Hope everyone has a great week, and remember the real reason for the season!

Love,
Kate, Brian, Lincoln and Jackson

still eating...

We just keep trying new foods with the boys, and they keep eating them!

Both boys enjoyed tomato soup the other night.  It was a bit messy, but that's what little boys are all about!

Last night, I made sausage and spinach stuffed shells.  Jackson REALLY liked them.  Each of the boys ate 1 1/2 shells, as well as some biscuit and banana.

Not sure what I'm making yet this weekend, but I'm sure they won't mind!

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

9 month check-up and more

Unfortunately, our week didn't get much better after our last post.

First, please pray for the Thiel/Headly/Word family.  They have suffered a tragic loss, and need all of the prayers and positive thoughts possible sent their way.
Please also consider being an organ donor, if you are not already.  Organ donation is a tremendous gift that saves lives and provides hope for so many people in this world.

So, what were we up to last week?
Jackson's pink eye cleared up, and he returned to daycare on Wednesday.
The boys had their 9 month check-up on Thursday.  They also received the second part of their flu shot.  Hopefully they are all set for winter.  Both boys are doing great - no concerns from the doctor at all.
    • Lincoln is 29 1/2 inches long, and weighs 21 pounds and 1 ounce.
    • Jackson is 30 1/2 inches long, and weights 21 pounds even.  (We don't believe Lincoln weighs more, but that's what the scale said!)
Friday, Jackson had physical therapy for his neck.  He's really improved holding his head up straight.  We need to continue stretching and strengthening.  Not wearing that helmet all the time should help tremendously!

The pink eye struck again!  When we picked the boys up from daycare on Friday, Lincoln's right eye looked terrible.  We started using Jackson's drops on him right away.  However, this had some pretty big ramifications on our weekend.
    • We stayed home Friday night instead of heading to Toledo.
    • We took Lincoln back to the doctor Saturday morning as he wasn't healing from his pink eye like Jackson did.  They gave us some different drops, which are helping greatly.
    • We finally made it to Toledo Saturday afternoon for Knox's first birthday party - and we had a great time!  The boys slept nearly the whole way to Toledo.
    • Saturday evening was fun celebrating RJ's 30th birthday with his family, friends, and neighbors.
    • Unfortunately, the trip home Sunday wasn't as good as the drive Saturday.  The boys slept part of the way, but were fussy the rest of the time.  I rode in the back with the boys for about half of the trip - and ended up extremely car sick.  We were all glad to be home Sunday night!
Sunday night and Monday night were productive evenings:  We've been working on cleaning out the kitchen cupboards to make room for more and more of the boys things.  We've moved some things to the basement for storage, and have finally been able to put sippy cups and bowls in the cupboard - which makes more counter space.  We did a bit of shopping at Costco last night to restock on some necessary items.  Working on getting laundry caught up from the weekend
The rest of this week we are continuing to clean out/organize cupboards, dressers/closets, the laundry room, and the office.  Hopefully we can determine the best place to put a freezer, and also get the house cleaned up for our guests coming next week to celebrate turkey day!  It's going to be a busy 8 days, but we are so looking forward to having company again!

Hope everyone has a great week!
Love,
Kate, Brian, Lincoln, and Jackson

Food update:
A few more new foods the boys have tried:
  • chicken fried rice
  • grilled cheese
  • lasagna
  • blueberries, melon
  • artichoke dip
  • shredded turkey
  • meat balls
  • birthday cake (YUM! YUM!  Carrott and Lemon Poppyseed)
  • ice cream cake (thanks Daddy)
  • stuffed pepper soup

Another long week?

Well, I hope yesterday isn't an indicator for how our week is going to be!

We started out the day with Jackson's helmet appointment.  We got some great news - his growth is slowing, and he is still in that acceptable range!  This means we can begin weaning Jackson out of his helmet.  Over the next two weeks, he only needs to wear his helmet for naps, bedtime, and car rides over 1 hour long.  Then, starting the week of Thanksgiving - we will be helmet free!  Brian and I are so excited!  It will be like introducing our handsome little man to everyone all over again!  We have one follow-up appointment on Monday after Thanksgiving just to ensure everything is going well.

Unfortunately, our good day ended there.

Jackson had awoken with a bit of a bloodshot eye, but we thought it was just that his cold was getting worse.  However, daycare called around 1:30 - as the redness, and matter was now in both eyes.  So, off to the doctor we went.  He has pink eye.  We have drops to put in both eyes three times a day (which is quite challenging with a 9 month old).  We are also being very cautious to wash our hands, clean the towels frequently, and keep Lincoln away from him.  Wish us luck!

The bright side - he is still our happy, smiley boy.  Well, at least while the sun is shining.  :-)  Oh...and hungry!
  1. When we picked the boys up from daycare, Miss Jen was sharing with us how bad Jackson's eyes looked, but commented how otherwise, he was quite himself.  Then, she commented on what the boys ate for lunch - pancakes!  She was amazed yet again by how much the boys eat.  She showed us that a pancake is roughly 4 inches in diameter, then proceeded to tell us that Jackson ate 3 of them, and Lincoln ate 4 - as well as 2 turkey sausage links!  And they each polished off their bottle on top of that!
  2.  Last night for dinner, each of the boys ate 1/2 a Grands biscuit with sausage gravy, some broccoli and cheese, and half a banana for dinner.  Then, Jackson had 10 oz of formula (vs. 6 usually) before he went to bed.  Even with all that, he was back up at 6 a.m. for another 6 oz of formula.
We have a lot to do this week, so hopefully Jackson will be feeling better soon, and Lincoln will avoid catching the pink eye.  Please say some prayers for us that we get everything done, and get everyone healthy for celebrating Knox's first birthday this weekend!  (We'd hate to give Knox pink eye for his birthday...you don't want to be remembered for THAT kind of gift!)

Love to you all,
Kate, Brian, Lincoln, and Jackson

More teeth? Seriously....

So, Monday night, Lincoln got his 4th tooth.  We were expecting that.  He gets another one every few weeks or so.  Imagine my surprise last night when I was feeding him dinner, and I see that TWO MORE have popped through!  Yes, he has all 4 of his front top teeth through the gum now, then the two middle ones on the bottom.
Today, the little man wasn't quite himself - a little fussier than usual, but who could blame him!  I think if he would quit bonking his face into the coffee/end tables, he'd be in a little bit better mood.

No new teeth to report for Jackson.  He may only have one tooth so far, but man can he eat!

Last night, we picked up City Barbeque for dinner - pulled pork with BBQ sauce, sweet potato casserole, and mac and cheese.  (Brian evidently promised the boys Friday morning that they could have mac and cheese for dinner - how could we not deliver!)  Also came with corn bread.  The boys really liked everything - especially the sweet, moist corn bread.
Tonight, we had chili for dinner, but something I put in it made it pretty spicy.  Jackson ate the beans and meat, but not the tomatoes.  Luckily, we had mac and cheese left!  Dinner was topped off with tapioca pudding (homemade from Thursday) - and this time, neither of the boys threw it back up!

Hmmm....what should we try to feed the boys tomorrow?

Visits, Visits, Teeth, Food, and Words

It's been quite a week!

Medical Visits for the boys:
Last Friday, we had a therapy appointment for Jackson.  Still doing good - just need to continue working on his strengthening.  This is getting harder the more mobile he gets!  All we can do is keep trying.
Next week, we have a helmet check-up on Monday.  Please pray that it is our last one, and we can start weening our handsome little man out of that helmet!
Next Thursday, the boys have their 9 month check-up, and second flu shot.  Can't wait to see how much they have grown, and what the doctor thinks about everything they are eating!
Next Friday will be therapy again, so another busy week for us.

Visiting Family
After therapy last Friday, we packed everyone up in the car and headed north.  The boys slept until we got to Greenville, so we stopped and grabbed some dinner.  Next stop was Grandma Harts.  The boys put on their Halloween costumes for her, and received a few treats from the Fort Recovery clan.  Brian fed the boys their cereal and fruit, we visited a bit, then we were back on the road heading north for another 2 hours.
When we got to mom and dad's house, Lincoln was ready to go!  He played with mom and dad for a while, and was awake till about 12:30.  Jackson decided to wake up around midnight, and was well rested.  So, we were up till 2 in the morning, and off and on all night with very restless boys.
Saturday was a great day.  Jackson was up around 6:30, but we just played until Lincoln got up around 7:30.  At 8:00 we fed the boys some banana bread and grapes for breakfast.  Gaylan came to see the little ghouls around 11:30, and we enjoyed her visit.  Aunt Lyn, Uncle RJ, Lylah and Knox arrived around noon, and we made homemade pizza for lunch - for the boys too!
After lunch, it was time to dress all the kids up in their costumes.  We stopped by Great Grandma Emmie's first for Trick-Or-Treating.  Then we were off to Great Aunt Marie's as well.  Thanks to everyone for the great treats that we received!
We went to Blakeslee church at 4:00, then home to mom and dads.  Great Aunt Ruth and Great Uncle Dave joined us for dinner so that they could meet the boys.  They were amazed at how many potaotes and carrots the boys ate for dinner (plus roast and biscuits too).  It was so nice seeing them and catching up.  We wish Aunt Ruth luck with getting her surgery scheduled soon!
Great Uncle Larry and Great Aunt Shirley stopped by later in the evening.  Lincoln went to bed fairly early, but Jackson didn't give in until after he had some apple pie and Carmel Cheesecake ice cream.  thankfully, the boys slept better Saturday night, so Brian and I got some much needed rest.  A great ending to a wonderful day.
Sunday was another fun day.  The boys were up around 7:00 again, and had more banana bread to snack on.  We made Cracker Barrel pancakes with real maple syrup for breakfast around 9:30.  Jackson really tore into those.  With everything he ate Saturday night, we couldn't believe how much he ate again Sunday morning.  Guess he's a growing boy!
After breakfast, Lyn and RJ went to do some Christmas shopping.  Unfortunately, we had to pack up and head back to Cincy.  We were home shortly after 4:00, made dinner, and ate quickly.  It was just before 6:00 when we were finishing up, and putting the boys in their costumes.  They were so cute!  We only took them to the one neighbors house, but we had fun passing out candy.  It was a great first Halloween for the boys.
Monday, it was back to work, but we were far from having an ordinary week.
  • Lincoln got his fourth tooth Monday night!  His top right front tooth finally popped through!  Yeah.  Aunt Beth says they will fall out in the same order as they come in, so we are keeping track to see if that is true.
  • Tuesday, the boys ate the school lunch for the first time.  Chicken noodle casserole, carrots, and applesauce.  Miss Jenn's first words to us when we picked them up - Man did they chow down on lunch!  They had 2 helpings of both the chicken noodle casserole and carrots, and would have eaten applesauce all day long if she would have let them.  They are enjoying eating real people food, and are such big kids at school now.  Makes Brian and I happy too - we are hopeful we can cut out ALL BABY FOOD in the next few weeks.
  • Tuesday night brought another very sweet surprise.  Jackson said his first word - MaMa!  My heart grew 2 sizes.  Every day I look at my two beautiful boys and think I couldn't love them any more than I already do.  Then they do something like that and prove me wrong!
So, a pretty eventful week, huh?  Oh...we aren't done yet!
  • Wednesday night, Uncle Aaron came over for dinner and to visit with the boys.  While he was here, Jackson decided he was going to stand up on his own!  It was only for a few seconds, but he wasn't holding onto anything!  Only a matter of time now...they will both be walking before we know it!
  • Thursday night, both the boys were very happy and content.  they played nicely on the kitchen floor while I made dinner and washed bottles.  We played a little bit too. (check out week 40 pictures once I post them)  :-)  They ate great for dinner - roast beef, corn, applesauce, and butter bread.  The two of them ate a whole piece of butter bread - on top of their meat, vegetables, and fruit!  We may need to take out a second mortgage to feed these boys!
After the boys settled into bed, I got to do a few things that I enjoy.  I made tapioca pudding, banana bread, renamed pictures and loaded some of them.  We did 4 loads of laundry, and I put my first draft of this post together.  What a productive night!

Staying home this weekend, and hopefully getting things around the house organized for our Thanksgiving guests, Christmas gifts wrapped, and maybe even a little bit of shopping done!

Hope everyone has a great weekend!
We'll write more soon.

Love,
Kate, Brian, Lincoln and Jackson

Happy 9 month Birthday Lincoln and Jackson!

Just wanted to wish my babies a happy 9 month birthday!  It's amazing that they've been here in our lives for as long as they were in my belly.

Life is good.  :-)

There is nothing quite like it...

Hi everyone -
I keep mentioning how the boys are eating more and more of our  my food all the time.
So when we all sat down to dinner last night (boys in high chairs, Brian and I at the kitchen table), I had to pause for a second...we are a family.  We were all sitting down to have dinner together and interacting with each other.
I remember as a kid it was always a big deal when we all sat down to have a meal together.  With 5 kids, schedules were very busy, and finding a time to have dinner with everyone was a challenge.   I do recall various comments about how quiet it was some nights when one or two of us weren't at the table, but I also recall mom commenting on how loud it was or how interesting the conversation was when we were all there.
As a mom now, I understand why it is important to sit down and have a meal together as a family.  It is about spending time together - sharing what happened during your day, laughing, and just enjoying your own little piece of life.  I am pretty sure this will be easy over the next few years, but when the boys get older, and more involved in other activities, we are going to need to make time to have dinner with everyone together at least once a week.

Some of you might ask why I'm being so sentimental?

Because there is nothing like sharing your steak, peas, mashed potatoes, and biscuits with your children...even if they are eating off your plate, and only 9 months old.

Have a great Wednesday!

Love,
Kate, Brian, Lincoln, and Jackson

More firsts to note!

Well, a lot happens in 2 weeks!

First things first...
  • Lincoln figured out the sippy cup last week.  Thursday night (10-21) he was just chugging juice - I think he was holding out on us for quite some time!
  • Jackson is talking more.  We can't really make it out, but mostly it sounds like "Ba" (maybe bottle, maybe trying to say Ma or Dad?)  He rambles on like he's telling us a whole story...so we are pretty sure that he'll be a chatterbox when he gets older!
  • Jackson finally got his first tooth yesterday (10-25)!  It is his bottom right tooth.  We are very excited!
  • More firsts for food - the boys have eaten yogurt, cheese slices, pizza, pasta, carrots, potatoes, black beans, rice, toast, chicken - pretty much everything.  Last night, we grabbed dinner from a local restaurant (Chipotle) on our way home, and I couldn't shovel it into their little mouths fast enough.  They even loved the bites of tomato from the salsa!
  • Lincoln is getting too smart.  He knows when his brother has a full bottle/sippy cup and he doesn't, and he'll make sure to tell us that he's not happy about it!
Health update
I know, it's been a bit of time since we've given everyone an update.  We were so relieved once we had everyone out of the hospital, I forgot that we still have "issues" we are tending to.
Grandma Hart - still doing well.  nothing new to report since her last visit to Dr. Starnes.  Just continuing to work on her strength to get back on her feet completely.
Mawma - mom is going to have another small outpatient procedure on Thursday.  She's still having issues "going" since her surgery in early September.  Hopefully they can get things fixed up this week so she's back to her old self before the holidays.
Jackson - Jackson continues to improve each and every day.  We took him for a helmet check-up last Thursday, and his differential is down to 2 mm (remember - we started at 20).  We were targeting 0-3, so this is great success.  They recommended leaving him in the helmet for a few more weeks, so we'll go back on 11-8 for another check up.  If he's around a 1 or 2, then we'll start weaning him out of his helmet.  We are looking forward to that...as cleaning his helmet each night becomes challenging with everything else we have to do, plus he is such a handsome man - we don't want to hide him behind that helmet anymore!
We take him back to therapy this coming Friday again.  He doesn't like therapy much any more - cried when he saw his normal therapist at his last appointment.  I think he just gets frustrated as he wants to play with all the neat toys they have, but they want him to do his stretches and strengthening.  We go to therapy on Friday afternoons now, and will continue going until he is walking, so a few more months yet.  Please continue to pray for his continued improvement!
The Whole Family - unfortuantely, our whole family dealt with a terrible stomach bug last week.  I was home from work Monday and Tuesday.  Then on Wednesday, I had to take Brian home at lunch time, and he was out the rest of the week.  The boys showed some signs throughout the week, but the worst came on Thursday.  I picked them up early on Thursday from daycare, and we needed to keep them home on Friday.  We didn't leave the house till Sunday!  Thankfully, it has run it's course, and we are all back to 100% now!

What have we been up to?
I am happy to report that our bathroom/drywall is all finished, and the kitchen table is back where it belongs.  Although, we do still eat dinner on the couch some nights.  :-)
We've been enjoying some quiet weekends at home over the past month.  It's very nice not to pack everyone up and head out on the weekends.  We love spending time with family and friends, but driving with two little boys is getting quite challenging.  Unfortunately, we missed Uncle Larry and Aunt Shirley's 45th wedding anniversary the weekend of the 16th.  We opted to stay home instead, and had a fairly productive weekend.  We mostly went shopping on Saturday - running some errands, and working on Christmas shopping.  We know that Christmas shopping in the future will be much more difficult.  Right now, we can buy things even when the boys are with us...and they do not know the difference!  We are taking advantage of it while we can.  Sunday was a trip to church, and tidying up things around the house.
We purchased a baby gate, and put it up in the doorway between the hallway and the kitchen.  After the first few days, the boys didn't really pay much attention to it.  However, they are getting smarter all the time, and when it is open, they make a dash for it!  We have to watch them ALL the time!
With the boys being sick this past weekend, we really didn't do too much.  Brian went to his moms on Saturday, while I stayed home and changed poopy diapers (literally).  Sunday, we went to church, then came home and made pancakes for breakfast (the boys love pancakes).  Brian cleaned off the picnic table so that we can hopefully get it all sealed in the next week or so.  I worked on cleaning up the kitchen, including cleaning out the bottom drawer of the stove, and we did laundry.  Lots and lots of laundry - trying to get rid of all those ugly germs!  We all made a trip to the grocery store in the evening before preparing for the week ahead.
This week is going to be busy again getting ready for Halloween this weekend.  We hope everyone has a great week, and we'll post another update soon!

Love,
Kate, Brian, Lincoln and Jackson

Wednesday Tidbits...

So, in my last post, I made it sound like Lincoln is ALWAY the first to do everything.  I should have said that Lincoln is USUALLY the first to do things.  Which would only be right, as he was born first!
Here are a few things to share with you regarding our week!
  • Last weekend, we began trying to work on getting the boys to drink out of a sippy cup. Surprisingly, Lincoln wanted nothing to do with the cup.  Jackson however had it figured out by Sunday.  So, now we send a sippy cup to daycare with diluted apple juice for Jackson to have during snacks, or whenever he's impatient and won't eat his food.
  • It is becoming more and more commonplace for me to "share" my dinner with the boys.  Mostly they've been eating vegetables and breads, which they can easily chew up and eat.  Well, last night I made Chicken Cordon Bleu (don't worry - I used mozzerella) for dinner.  Jackson was standing beside the couch as I ate my dinner (I'll explain eating dinner on the couch shortly), so I decided I would give him a small bite of chicken.  He LOVED it.  He just stood there for about 10 minutes eating chicken!  I even gave him some with the breading and spicy mustard - didn't matter, he still wanted more.  Guess I'll need to start cooking for "3" or else I won't get anything to eat if I share my food with both boys!
  • Why was I eating dinner on the couch?  Well, it all started about 5 years ago....literally.  The first Christmas after we moved into the house, we had a water leak in our upstairs master bathroom, and it flooded our breakfast nook.  We had to tear most of the drywall out of the breakfast nook, and also had to replace the floor in the bathroom.  We decided to put a tile floor in instead of lamanate.  Well, by doing that, it raised the height of the toilet, and when the contractor reset the toilet, they didn't account for that.  So, unfortunately, the toilet didn't seal correctly, and has been slowly leaking for about 4 1/2 years.  The contractor is working on "making it right" this week, so we had to move our table out of the breakfast nook - which means dinner on the couch.  Yesterday they tore out a small piece of drywall (not much was affected by the leak thankfully), checked all the support beams, treated the inside portion of the walls, and patched up the drywall. They were back out today to sand the drywall and put a second coat on.  They are hoping that they can finish up the drywall, paint the affected area, and reset the toilet tomorrow.  So, hopefully we'll be back to eating at the table by the weekend!
  • Please say some prayers for all of us this week - we need it.  Lincoln's entire top gum is swelled - he has his 2 bottom teeth in already, but about 4 more are coming in on the top.  Poor things just hasn't been himself this week!  Jackson is still working on his bottom 2 teeth, and we are really hoping this week is the week, as he has been extremely fussy!
Well, that's all for now.  Hope everyone has a great rest of the week!

Kate, Brian, Lincoln and Jackson

Proud mom!

As you all know, Jackson has been going to therapy for nearly 3 months now to correct his Torticollis.  Every other week we take him to be evaluated, and they tell us what has improved, and what we need to work.  We are then responsible for doing therapy with Jackson each day.
With Jackson being a twin, after they point out things to work on, we usually go home, and watch what both of our boys are doing.  In most cases, we observe Lincoln, and he is doing things that Jackson struggles with.   As a parent, I am often times conflicted:  happy and excited to see Lincoln do things, but also sad that Jackson is struggling with his development.  We celebrate Lincoln's milestones, but try not to make a big deal that Lincoln does things first all the time.
Today, I want to share a story from last night with you.
Before dinner, the boys were playing on the floor in the kitchen together.  Jackson was on his belly, spinning in circles (which was part of his therapy in the early stages - we had to make sure he was spinning in both directions).  This is how Jackson changes which direction he goes in.  Brian saw him spinning, and asked me why Lincoln had never really done that.  Should he have?  (See, we worry about both of them!)
I explained to Brian that it was ok that Lincoln hadn't ever done that, as pretty much from the start of his crawling, he had learned to transition into sitting.  Therefore, he didn't need to spin - he would sit up, and change directions.

For about a month and a half, as part of his therapy, we've been working on getting Jackson to transition from crawling into sitting.  So, seeing Jackson still spinning last night at dinner time, was a bit discouraging.  But that all changed an hour or so later. :-)
Last night was bath night.  For some reason, I decided to give the boys a bath in the big tub, instead of in their smaller one.  We've done this before, but with the boys being so mobile, it is quite a chore to get them cleaned up as they roll over, crawl and splash in the big tub.  But, last night I threw caution to the wind, and I couldn't be happier with my decision.
I gave Lincoln his bath first, and I was soaked and exhausted afterward.  But he sure had fun!
Jackson was next, and he was sitting in the tub to begin with.  He spotted the 2 little rubber duckies sitting on the edge of the tub, so down on all fours he went, and crawled over to get them.  Then, much to my surprise, he sat back down and played with them!  I couldn't hardly believe it at first...but then he did it again, and again.  Although the rest of bath time was a struggle to get him to lay down, sit still, etc. so I could get him clean, I was so happy and so proud!  He was finally doing it!
I noticed he was still doing it this morning.  First he crawled in to sit beside my feet while I was getting around for work.  And again when I was in the kitchen traying to pack my lunch.  This little guy has had a rough few months with his therapy and that stinking helmet (it really does get smelly - thank God for cooler weather coming), and I'm just so proud of the progress that he's made.  He continues to work very hard, and yet has mainedtained his happy demeanor throughout.  I just couldn't help but share my excitement with all of you.
I hope that you all are proud of your kids each day, as even the smallest little accomplishments are so amazing!
Love,
Kate, Brian, Lincoln and Jackson

Catching up and noting firsts...

Wow - a lot can happen in just a few weeks!  We've had our challenges, but also lots of fun - and we've survived!

First, let me thank everyone for their prayers, as they at least partially worked.  I was able to drive part of the trip to my parents a few weeks ago, and only spent half the trip in the back seat with the boys.  Anyway...
We had a great visit that weekend at my parents.  The boys met Gaylan Thiel for the first time (she's stopped by to see them, but we always seem to be gone), and visited with Gaylan's daughter Rachael as well.
We shared some tapioca pudding with the boys, and they seemed to like it.
We went to 4:00 church, and afterward we visited with Great-Grandma Emmie and Pete for a while.  Gram couldn't believe how big the boys had gotten, and how they crawl and sit up - boy, she should see them now!
Sunday, we had a chance to see Lyn, RJ, Lylah, and Knox for a bit before we had to head back to Cincy.
The trip back wasn't too bad, as we stopped in Fort Recovery to see Grandma Hart and to feed the boys.  It was a productive stop, as Seth brought out all sorts of toys the boys loved, which gave us lots of ideas for Christmas and birthday gifts!
Monday morning, the boys and I had to say goodbye to Brian, as he headed off to New York for work.  It was very late on Tuesday night (actually, 12:40 Wednesday morning) when he arrived safely back home.  Handling two active little boys on my own is very trying, so a special thanks to Uncle Aaron for coming and helping to feed the boys their fruit and cereal before bedtime, and helping out with baths.  I hope the boys didn't stress you out too bad!
Wednesday evening of that week, Brian went and picked up Grandma Hart.  She had an appt. with her surgeon.  It was a great appointment, as she doesn't have to go back and see Dr. Starns again unless she is having difficulty swallowing.  She'll still need to follow-up from time to time with Dr. Girard (her cancer doctor), just to keep an eye on things.
Grandma Hart was with us Thursday night as well, and although she isn't strong enough to get down and play with the boys, she enjoyed getting to see them and all their tricks.  Brian took her back on Friday.  So, it was an exhausting week for me to say the least, as Brian was often gone during feeding time.
Saturday, Brian headed off to the Red's game, so the boys and I went shopping with my friend Jennie.  We got a few little decorations for Christmas, and LOVED the Mediteranean restaurant where we had lunch.  Jennie's mom joined us too, and it was so great to see Debbie!  After lunch, the boys and I went to visit Stony at Uncle Aarons.  I hadn't seen him since he moved over a year ago.  I think he's still having a hard time believing I have 2 kids now, but it was so nice to see him and visit, even if it was only for a short time.  All in all, Saturday was a great day!
Sunday was our usual trip to church, then a quick shopping trip to get winter coats, hats, and gloves for the boys.  Two kids gets pretty expensive when the seasons and their size changes!
Sunday night, Jackson and the kitchen chair had their first go round - and the chair won.  The boys are pulling themselves up on everything, and the kitchen chairs fascinate the boys.  However, they aren't heavy enough (evidently), and topple if the boys are on the wrong side.  Check out the gallery for pictures (week 36 - he has a little cut over his right eye)!  Thankfully, he had his helmet on, or it could have been much worse.
Last week the ups and downs continued.
Monday evening I came down with a stomach bug, and was home sick from work on Tuesday.  Thankfully, no one else has gotten it!  Since I wasn't feeling well, Brian was in charge of dinner Tuesday night.  He made Velvetta shells and cheese, so we let the boys try it.  They both loved them!
That night (October 5) was the first that we've seen Jackson pick up the puffs and put them in his mouth.  I think he was able to do it before then, but he would holler, and I would give in and put them in his mouth.  Now, we can't get the puffs to stay on either of the boys trays for very long!
Wednesday night we watched the Red's in their first playoff game.  Not quite the result we were hoping for, but the stuffed shells I made that night were delicious!  Thursday night I made enchiladas, and Lincoln tried a few bites.  He seemed to like it, but was more interested in playing.
Friday night, all 4 of us went to Meijer grocery shopping after work.  It was definitely cheaper when the boys and I went shopping without Brian, but we picked up quite a few things that were needed for some home maintenance.  After the grocery trip, we hurried home to watch the 2nd playoff game for the Red's.  We were hopeful at first when the Redlegs had a 4 run lead, but that quickly dwindled, and again, not the result of the game we were hoping for.
Saturday we had a great day spending time together as a family.
We loaded the boys in the truck, and finally headed up to the new outlet mall in Monroe.  We were hoping to find clothes for ourselves and for the boys, but I was the only one lucky enough to find much.  A few more shirts and sweaters and I should be set for winter!  As for the boys...guess it's time to head back to Once Upon a Child and see what they have.
Satruday afternoon, the boys had some of Mawma's home canned sweet potatoes - and they LOVED them!  Saturday evening brought more table food trial as I shared my roasted potatoes and carrots that I had cooked with a turkey breast with each of them.  I was surprised that Lincoln ate the carrots, as he hates the baby food carrots.  However, both the boys ate quite a few potatoes and carrots!
Sunday morning we actually made it to 9:00 church - which anymore, is quite the accomplishment for us!  After church, we went to Cracker Barrel for breakfast - and the boys first taste of pancakes!  Although they weren't too sure of them at first, they warmed up to them once we made sure they were soaked good in maple syrup.  :-)
The rest of the afternoon was time at home preparing for the week ahead.  Brian did some more yard work (he worked outside some Saturday afternoon as well), and I tended to washing bottles, doing dishes, laundry, and making dinner (homemade Turkey and rice soup).  After the long weekend, the boys were very tired, and went to bed just shortly after 8:00 when the Red's game started. (Again, another loss, so the playoff excitement in Cincy is over).
Hopefully this week will be a bit calmer, yet productive.  We still have some projects around home to tend too (putting the safety latches on cabinets, hiding as many cords as we can from the boys, etc.), and we hope to continue introducing the boys to more table food so that we can start weening them off baby food.  I also need to get back to picking out pictures to print and share with the grandparents, and we need to work on getting some more Christmas shopping done as well.  Friday is another therapy appointment for Jackson, so we'll send another update later in the week.
Hope everyone is healthy, happy and well.  Happy Autumn!

Happy Anniversary!!!

Just a little shout out to Lyn and RJ.  Congratulations on 5 wonderful years of marriage!  Thinking of you today, and wishing you many more happy years to come.

Love,
The Hart's

First word!

Hi everyone -
On Wednesday (9/22) Lincoln said "Dad"!
It is now his favorite thing to say (and the only thing we can understand out of all of his jabber)!
We are still waiting on teeth to pop through for Jackson (he's fussy enough...they should be coming), and I'm working really hard to get Jackson to say "Mom", but nothing yet.
They both love to stand up - and they pull themselves up on anything they can find.  We had told the ladies at daycare they were pulling themselves up to stand, but they didn't see it till Wednesday.  Lincoln was in the play area, and all of a sudden they saw his little head pop up - they were so excited!  Not to be outdone, Jackson followed suit on Thursday.  Now all we hear is how they aren't babies anymore - they are big kids!
Please wish us well on our drive tonight.  I really hope I don't have to ride in the backseat between the two car seats the whole way!
Have a great weekend - TGIF!
Love,
Kate, Brian, Lincoln and Jackson

Happy 60th Birthday to Paw-pa!!!!

We just wanted to wish my dad a VERY happy birthday today.  It's a big one, so we want to make sure that he knows how thankful we are to have him in our lives.

Happy birthday dad! Here are to many more healthy and happy years!

More great things to share...

Hi everyone -
Obviously, the boys are getting more and more independent each day, which gives me more time to write about all the fun things they are up to.  :-)  Definitely a win/win situation for everyone involved, and we get to share how awestruck we are about each new skill that the boys develop.
Last night, Lincoln managed to get some puffs in his mouth!  He got some in with both his right and left hand.  This just means we are one more step closer to the boys feeding themselves!  (I know, don't get too excited...feeding themselves also means more mess)
Jackson sampled some potatoes that I cooked with a roast Saturday night, and liked them, so last night I let him try some instant mashed potatoes and a tiny piece of noodle.  He goobled them both right up!  Might have to try pancakes or french toast this weekend!
Unfortunately, Brian took Lincoln to see Dr. Korn this morning.  He's fine - he just broke out in a rash sometime yesterday, and when they looked at it at daycare this morning, they didn't think he should stay.  He wasn't running a fever, eating fine, and is still the happy little boy he always is.  Dr. Korn looked at his rash, and concluded it must be viral.  It's not contagious, so he (and the doctor's note) will head back to daycare tomorrow.
Brian went and picked Jackson up at daycare a few minutes ago, and when he got home and saw Lincoln, he got a HUGE smile on his face!  Today was the first time that Jackson has went to daycare without Lincoln.  I think he missed his "big" brother a little bit.  Daycare said Jackson was a bit fussier than ususal, but that could be his teeth too.
Well, I think that's all on the events of the past few days.  We'll write more soon!
Hope everyone is having a great week.
Love,
Kate, Brian, Lincoln and Jackson

I'm the luckiest mommy in the world...

This weekend was a great weekend.  Friday night, we ran a few errands (Target and Sam's club) then came home, had a frozen pizza for dinner, and just relaxed a bit.
Saturday, we got up and cleaned the whole house - it looks so nice!  The boys were great and played or napped most of the morning, which gave us 3 hours of uninterrupted time (well, mostly uninterrupted) to get the place spiffed up.  We had some lunch, then Brian watched the boys for a few hours so that I could go get my hair cut and colored.  When I got home, we went to the grocery store - the whole family!  We can't remember the last time we ALL went to the grocery store.  I appreciated having some assistance with the shopping.
Lincoln's second tooth popped in (his bottom left, right next to the first one that came in) on Saturday.  We are patiently awaiting Jackson's first tooth to arrive, as he has been very fussy in the evenings.  We just want our happy Jackson all the time!
Saturday night, our friends Nick and Jenny were in the neighborhood, and stopped by to see the boys and visit.  It was so nice to share our little guys with them, and to catch up with what is going on.
Last night was a bit rough - both of the boys were up off and on throughout the night, so Brian got up with the boys this morning, and let me sleep in.  Once I decided to get out of bed and start the day, we rushed around and went to church.  After church, we ate a bit of lunch, then Brian headed off to Fort Recovery to see how his mom is doing now that she is home.  So, it was just me and the boys all afternoon.  It was so nice to spend time with them.  They each napped a bit which allowed me to go through their clothes and pack up some of their smaller things.  Hard to believe how much they have grown over the past 8 months.
However, the highlight of the weekend was later this afternoon when we were all sitting on the floor, and both of the boys crawled up in my lap.  They were both very happy, laughing, and trying to climb all over me.  That was when I realized I am the luckiest mommy in the world, because I have two of the best little guys ever.  They continue to amaze me each day with the different things they learn, the smiles they flash at just the right time, and the hugs and laughs that they share with us.   This is what we fought so hard for, and this is what really matters in life.  It just doesn't get any better than having two happy babies sitting on your lap, just sharing their love with you.
Hope everyone has a great week.  Please pray for my mom that when they remove her catheter AGAIN tomorrow, that her bladder has healed enough and functions properly so that she doesn't have to have it reinserted.
Love,
Kate, Brian, Lincoln and Jackson

For those of you waiting...

The Good Lord headed my prayers last night.  Jackson slept until 4:50 this morning.  :-)

Little Lincoln would sleep till 7:00 or so, but we had to wake him up at 5:45.

Happy Thursday!

What a beautiful day!

Wow, today was one of those days where everything was either going terribly wrong, or wonderful.
However, at the end of the day, the high points of the day outweigh the low points.

Highlights:
  • After nearly 4 months, Grandma Hart went home today!  She was checked out of the Drake Center before 1:00.  We definitely had our moments over the past few months wondering if this day would ever come.  We are thankful the surgery was a success, and she was able to overcome her breathing obstacles.  She still has a bit of work with regaining her strength, and learning what and how much of things to eat, but that will all come in due time.
  • Mawma was released from the hospital.  She had a bit of a setback after leaving, and had to return to the ER and have a catheter reinserted, but she is now home, and resting .  The catheter will be removed again on Friday, and hopefully her bladder will be healed and working appropriately.
  • Jackson had a wonderful therapy session!  Since Grandma Hart was released so early today, Brian was able to go to therapy with us.  Hopefully, he'll have more time at home now, and can become more involved in JT's therapy.  We need to continue stretching his muscle in his neck, but we are getting close to being ready to switch our focus from stretching to strengthening.  Yeah!
  • Jackson surprised his therapist a bit today....as he took 5 really good "steps" crawling today!  I guess we can officially say he is crawling (althought somewhat unconventionally at times), as when he raced Lincoln last night across the kitchen floor, Jackson definitely was quicker!
The low down...
It's just been a frustrating few days with TWO teething little boys. (Sigh)
  • They want to be held constantly, which is getting more challenging the bigger and more mobile they get.
  • Spit ups have become more common for both of them.
  • Bedtime is just chaos.  They are so tired, but fight going to sleep.
  • Jackson is going through a phase where he swats his bottle away and doesn't want to drink it - this usually happens when he is tired, and he knows that if he drinks his bottle, he will relax and go to sleep.

So, althought I'm exhausted, and the house looks like a tornado hit it, I'm very thankful for the blessings that God bestowed on us today...even the cranky little guys who now look like perfect angels sleeping in their bed.    Maybe God will grant us just one more miracle for today and they will both sleep till 5:30?  OK...I'm just being greedy.  Guess I'll retire, recharge my battery, and prepare to tackle tomorrow.  Besides, the weekend is right around the corner!

God Bless you all.

Catching up...

Today, we have LOTS of good news to share!

Hopefully by end of day tomorrow, we will have all Grandparents HOME!
Grandma Hart is scheduled to be released from the Drake center tomorrow.  It has been a very long 3 1/2 months, and she is greatly looking forward to going home.  Thank you to everyone for the prayers and support during this time!

My mom had her surgery yesterday to repair her bladder.  Everything went VERY WELL.  She was sitting up, talking, and eating chicken broth, jello, and ice cream treats when we left the hospital last night.  Definitely a much better day than January 7th!  The doctor is hopeful that she will find relief, and will be on her way home tomorrow as well.

So, now we just need to get Jackson to 100%, and we can hopefully stay away from the doctor other than check-ups for a while.  Jackson is getting there - still improving on his head measurements, and therapy keeps adding new stretches/strengthening exercises.  We will get there!

So, what have we been doing otherwise?
August 28th we traveled to Fort Recovery for the Hart Reunion.  It was so great to see everyone, and to introduce quite a few people to the boys.  Good food, conversation, and beautiful weather made it a great day!
Congratulations to Joe and Marie Shaneyfelt - they welcomed a precious baby girl on 8/27!  Welcome to the family Mackenzie!
Labor Day weekend we spent in Cincinnati with my parents.  Mom and Dad hadn't seen the boys in 4 weeks, so they were anxious to see how they had grown and what new skills they have.  We went to church Saturday evening, and Jackson met his future wife.  :-)  There was a little girl probably a few months older than the boys sitting in the pew in front of us.  The two of them sat and smiled and laughed at each other through most of the homily.  Unfortunately, we drew attention to ourselves as Jackson's laugh is adorable - and very loud (especially in a quiet church that echos).  It was very cute none-the-less!  After church, we grilled steaks and spent a nice quiet night in.
Sunday we made breakfast, then went to visit Grandma Hart for a bit.  After an early dinner, we packed snacks and drinks in the van and traveled downtown for Riverfest.  It was the boys first experience with fireworks.  They really didn't bother Jackson at all.  Lincoln however was a bit more jumpy, and cried after the "tests" went off.  Once the big show started, he was just fine (as long as he was on Mommy's lap).  Both the boys were drawn to the bright colors....for about 10 minutes.  Then, they understood what all the hooplah was about, and went to sleep.
Monday brought a trip to Five Guys for lunch with Aaron, Mom, and Dad before they hit the road for home.  We took the boys to visit Grandma Hart again, then settled in for a relaxing night.
This past weekend we traveled to Toledo on Saturday morning so I could pick Lyn, RJ, Lylah and Knox up at the Detroit airport that afternoon.  They had a great week in Texas, but wish it would have been under better circumstances.
Sunday was church, breakfast, then a special little treat.  My cousin Chad and Cassie had a beautiful baby boy early on Saturday morning, so we went to visit and welcome the newest member of the Muehlfeld clan!  Levi Michael joined us at 2:11 a.m. on 9/11.  He was 19 inches long, and weighed 7 lbs. 9 oz.  He is perfect!  Congratulations Chad and Cassie - the boys can't wait to play with Levi at future family get togethers!
That afternoon, Brian and I got a taste of what it would be like to be parents of 4 kids, as we watched Lylah and Knox for a few hours.  It was challenging, but everyone survived and no body parts were lost!  We all enjoyed a nice dinner together, then conversation to catch up on the Willinger's trip to Texas.  Everett Caldwell will always be remembered, and Melody and her girls were so lucky and blessed to have such a wonderful man in their lives!
Monday was a very long day.  Lincoln was up at 4:30 for breakfast, then Jackson was up around 6:00 (this is the downside to getting them up early through the week - no sleeping on on the weekend!).  We got ready for our day, and packed as much of our stuff up as we could in the morning.  Mom and Dad stopped by Lyn's around 9:30 to visit a bit before heading to the hospital.  We grabbed lunch quick, then headed to the hospital around 12:15.  The adults were able to see mom quickly before they took her into surgery, then it was more waiting.  So, we took my dad to visit Chad, Cassie and Levi to help pass the time.
Around 3:00, we talked with one of the doctor's involved in the surgery, and were notified that everything went great.  However, it wasn't until nearly 6:00 that we got to see mom.  By that time, she was fully awake, and in her hosptial room.  She looked great, and was talking to all of us.  What a relief.
Brian, the boys and I left the hospital around 6:30, went to Lyn's, and then the whirlwind began.  We were packing the car, eating dinner, and feeding the boys - all at the same time.  God Bless Lyn and RJ for heating up soup for us for dinner, and helping with feeding the boys so that we could get on the road.  We left Toledo around 7:45, knowing it would be late when we arrived home.  The construction and an accident around Dayton didn't help us, and it was about 11:40 before we arrived home.  It was a very late night, but we are so glad that we were able to spend the day with Dad and my sisters, and be there to support mom this time, since we weren't able to be there in January.
This week will likely fly by like the past few, since it is Tuesday already.  Tonight, we are taking the boys to visit Grandma Hart one last time before she heads home tomorrow.  Uncle John and Aunt Pam are coming down to visit today too, so we are looking forward to seeing them for a bit.
Tomorrow is therapy for Jackson, so my work day gets broken up a bit.
The rest of the week I'll be spending trying to put the house back together, as we are expecting some friends to stop by and see the boys this weekend.
The weekend is all ours - hopefully we can organize the house, the boys clothes, do a little shopping, and I'm evening crossing my fingers that I can get my hair cut!  Plus, we'll have to spend time with the boys!
We'll keep posting as the boys develop new skills.  It is so much fun to see what they learn each day!
Hope everyone is having a great September, and we'll write more again soon.

Love,
Kate, Brian, Lincoln and Jackson.

Jackson's helmet update

Hi all -
Jackson had an appointment this morning to check and see how his head is doing, and to adjust the fit of his helmet.  His head grew some more, and the variance in measurement is down to 7 mm (vs. 9 at his last appointment).  They shaved a little bit out of the forehead of his helmet, so we are all set for the next 3 weeks.  At this rate, he should definitely have it off for Christmas!

Officially Crawling!!!

Just a quick note...today, we are officially claiming that Lincoln is crawling!  He has been scooting for quite some time, but tonight, he crawled clear across our bedroom without touching his belly to the ground!  So exciting!  He's getting quite big for his britches, as he is pulling himself up to stand too - using his bouncer no less!  I have a feeling he will be walking way before he turns one year old!

will write more tomorrow (hopefully)!

Prayers for comfort...

Hi everyone -
I just wanted to write a quick post and ask everyone to please keep the Caldwell family in your thoughts and prayers.  The Caldwell's are part of the Willinger family, and they have suffered a great loss.  Everett passed away yesterday after a very brave fight with melanoma.  Melody and her two young daughters need all the prayers for comfort they can get right now.  Please pray for Brenda, Dick, Kelly (Dave), RJ, Lyn, Lylah, and Knox for safe travels to Texas so that the entire family (including Grandma Kathy) can be together to celebrate Everetts life.

Thank you!
Kate

Can you believe my babies are 7 months old today?

Hi everyone -
It's been a quiet week.  Just the usual day to day stuff.
Today is the boys' seven month birthday!  Planning to take lots of pictures tonight.
Looking forward to visiting with the Hart family tomorrow at the reunion, then Sunday will likely be a day of rest (we need one!).
Hope everyone has a great weekend, and we'll write more later!

Love,
Kate, Brian, Lincoln, and Jackson

Good news to report!!!

Hi Everyone -
It finally looks like the "health" of our family is taking a positive turn.
Let's start with the Grandparents...
1)  Grandma Hart is making some great progress!  They did a swallow test last Friday (8-20), and she passed it so she has been eating "real" food!  She has had chicken, lasagna, sherbert, ice cream, peas, corn, and other stuff too.  Definitely a very positive sign!  They cap off her trach tube when she is sitting in a chair which allows her to visit and speak with everyone.
2)  Mawma is getting some of her spunk back.  :-)  She's definitely had more energy over the past few weeks - either that, or she is just trying to get things done up before she has her sugery.  She's been making salsa and canning it.
Her surgery is going to be September 13th, so please keep her in your thoughts on that day!
3)  Pawpa had his colonoscopy on Friday.  Everything looks good (which was a relief to all of us).  They did see some patches that could possibly turn into diverticulitis, which may be part of what has been causing his pain.  But for now, he is on the mend!

The kids...
Lincoln (Right) - we had his post op appointment today with the urologist.  He is up to 17 1/2 pounds in weight.  The doctor cleared him, so no more appointments for Lincoln!  His incisions look great, and as he grows, I think they will be hard to even see.  Modern medicine is amazing!

Jackson (Left) - we had another follow-up for Jackson's helmet this morning.  Another big improvement in measurement!  We started with a 20 mm difference in measurement, and 3 weeks ago it was down to a 15 mm difference.  Today, it is down to a 9 mm difference!  Our goal is to have a 0-3 mm difference, so this is great improvement!  Please hope he keeps growing and doesn't have to wear his helmet too long!  Next check up is in 2 1/2 weeks.

Busy time...
So, last time I mentioned we had a great weekend at Mawma and Pawpa's, but I forgot to mention that the boys went to their first parade!  It was Edon Days weekend, so we were able to attend the annual parade.  The boys were (thankfully) a bit young yet to be chasing after the candy, but we still had a great afternoon with family (including Great Aunt Shirley and Great Uncle Larry).  Lincoln didn't really like all the fire sirens, but Jackson was unphased by them.

Last weekend (8/13-8/15) we enjoyed a weekend at home entertaining some friends.  Friday night, my friend Jennie watched the boys so that Brian and I could have a night out at the Red's game with the Brocki's.  I do love my boys, but it was very refreshing to have a night out with adults!  The game was hot, but the beer was cold, and the Red's won - so a GREAT night!  It was also Firework's Friday which is always a wonderful treat!  Thanks to Jennie for watching the boys!

The Brocki's stayed with us through the weekend, and it was wonderful having them around.  Their 20 year old daughter Jamie became Jackson's girlfriend really quickly - he loved when she would carry him around!  We had a great Saturday playing Wii, resting (Mommy got a nap), and topped it off with dinner out - including margaritas!

Sunday we had to say goodbye to our friends, but look forward to seeing them on a future trip to Toledo.  The rest of the afternoon we ran a few errands, and went to visit Grandma Hart.  The boys and I got to hear her talk for the first time in months - and she tried to make up for it!  We laughed a bit about how much she was talking, but it really was a wonderful sound to hear after all this time.

Last week was pretty quiet for us.  The only major thing was Jackson's therapy on Wednesday.  Still making progress, but doing his therapy is getting harder and harder, as he wants to be on the move constantly!  We just keep trying and working on it each day.

This past weekend was a pretty quiet weekend.  No where to go, no guests in town.  Saturday morning I was able to sneak out of the house for about an hour and a half.  I went to the bank, and stopped and got some clothes for the boys.  They are growing out of their 6 month clothes, so time for some bigger ones!  After shopping for a bit, I had to go home and save daddy.  The boys have been pretty fussy lately waiting for their first teeth to come in, and they weren't taking it easy on daddy.  I helped finish feeding the boys, and gave daddy a break so he could get a few things done around the house.

In the afternoon, the boys had their first exposure to "meat" baby food.  Vegetables with chicken.  Jackson couldn't get enough of it...Lincoln didn't really care much for it.

Saturday afternoon, Brian went to visit his mom, and the boys and I went to run a few more errands.   After dinner Saturday night, we were all beat, and went to bed early.

Sunday morning we all went to church, and met some really nice people after mass.  A woman and her family came to introduce themselves.  They are a family of 6 - 2 older girls, then a set of twins that were one boy and one girl.  Their son had to wear a helmet like Jackson - and she wanted to show us how good her son's head looks now.  It was great to find someone who understands, and to see that many years later, the effects of the helmet were still in tact.  We are going to have such a handsome young man when Jackson gets his helmet off!

After church, we finally went and bought high chairs for the boys.  We've been feeding them in their bouncers, but that is getting more and more challenging, as the boys are getting really good at getting out of their bouncers (check out the pictures to the right).  Hopefully, the high chairs will contain them a bit more, and also be easier on our backs!

After lunch (the boys got to try Maccaroni and cheese), it was off to visit Grandma Hart again for the afternoon.  She looks forward to our Sunday visits, and we are pretty sure that all the nurses/workers at the Drake know who our boys are!  She's a pretty proud Grandma!

Well, that's all for now.  Will write more again later.  Hope everyone enjoys the week and the final days of August!

Love,
Kate, Brian, Lincoln and Jackson

6 Month Checkup - 8/10

Hi everyone -
The boys had their 6 month check up with the doctor on Tuesday.  Here are the stats:
Lincoln
  • weighs 17 pounds, 2 ounces
  • 27 ¼ inches long
  • Doctor is really pleased with the results of his surgery.  Indicated his incisions are healing very nicely.
  • Doctor called Lincoln the "smiley guy", as he just kept grinning at Dr. Korn!
  • Working really hard yet on crawling.  We caught him last night up on both his hands, and one knee - he had the other leg stuck straight out.  So, he's working on his balance, and figuring out how to get everything working together.
Jackson
  • weighs 18 pounds, 10 ounces
  • 27 ½ inches long
  • Dr. Korn was very impressed with the improvement with Jackson's head after just 4 weeks in the helmet.
  • The doctor had to work a bit harder to get this one to smile!
  • Jackson is really doing well with his therapy - he rolls both ways now, without much prodding from Mommy!  We are very excited.  Just need to get him transitioning from sitting to laying on the floor, and continue working on stretching that muscle!
Other points from the doctor regarding the boys:
  • Obviously, we are feeding them well. :-)  Indicated we should continue with cereal, fruits, vegetables. Advised us to start giving them meats, puffs, and then work in some Cherrios.  If doing well with textures, then we can start table food (toast, pancakes, noodles, mashed potatoes, etc.)! Fun fun fun!
  • Important for us to finish childproofing.  Brian put all the outlet covers on last night, and was evaluating which cabinets need latches.  We still need to get some baby gates to corral the boys in the rooms we want them in, but we are getting there!
  • Boys received more vaccinations (one oral - 3 injections).  They both did really well with their injections though - cried for about a minute, then settled down and cuddled up to Mommy and Daddy.
  • Flu shots will be needed in October and November (appointments all set up)
  • Next evaluation will be their 9 month appointment in November!
Therapy
Jackson had his second therapy session a little over a week ago.  He's definitely making progress in some areas, but we still need to work more on other items.  Can someone find us some more time in the day?  Please?
His next helmet check up is on the 23rd, so nothing new to report there.

Post-op
Lincoln has his post-op appointment on the 23rd as well, so more to come on that.

What do we do with our time?
Our weekdays are mostly filled with feedings, commuting, working, laundry, washing bottles, baths, and a bit of time playing with the boys.  We get some sleep once in a while!

Last weekend, we traveled to Mawma and Pawpa's house on Friday night.  It took us a bit to get there, as we had to stop and feed the boys on the way, and change them into their PJ's.  We arrived around 11 - very tired, but excited about visiting.
Saturday we met Bowen Reed - he is about 10 weeks younger than the boys, but a very handsome young man.  We enjoyed meeting Bowen and his daddy, and visiting with his mommy Kim.  Kim is a longtime friend I went to grade school/high school with, and her parents and mine have been friends forever.  Ironic that we both had our first babies so close - and all boys!  We enjoy keeping in touch on Facebook, and Kim likes knowing what to expect out of Bowen in the coming weeks by hearing stories about what our boys are up to!

We also spent some time with Great-Grandma Emmie at church on Saturday afternoon.  She scooped Lincoln right out of my arms - not bad for an 82 year old!  She is very very proud of her great-grand twins!

Sunday afternoon we "showered" my cousin Chad, Cassie, and their future son with gifts.  We look forward to the arrival of another Muehlfeld boy in mid-September (Great-Grandma Emmie's 11th great-grandchild - 8th boy!).  We hope that Chad and Cassie find as much joy in their new bundle as we have in our boys!
We also got to see Great-Aunt Jean and Great-Uncle Bill, Great-Aunt Marie, and Great-Aunt Karen.  They thought holding the boys was a lot of fun until we put them on the floor together!  They really enjoyed watching them play and interact on the floor along with Knox and Parker!  We will be entertained for hours at future Muehlfeld holidays with all the baby boys crawling around!

This coming weekend, some friends are coming to visit.  Brian and I are heading to the Red's game with them on Friday while my friend Jennie, her husband, and two boys babysit.  Saturday will likely be filled with shopping, pool time (maybe), Wii, and visiting and catching up.  We are getting very excited about Barb, Pat, and Jamie's visit!  Sunday after, we plan to take the boys to visit Grandma Hart...it's been almost 2 weeks since she saw them!

Hope everyone is staying cool in this heat.  More updates will come soon!

Love to all,
Kate

Great vacation week!

Wow, it hasn't even been 2 weeks, and here I am posting again!  However, during that time, we've been very busy - as usual!

First, I finally got a night out on Friday July 23...which was very much needed.  I fed the boys their fruit and cereal when I got home from work, then Brian took over after visiting with his mom.  Brian fed the boys their bottles and put them to bed so that I could go have drinks with a girlfriend to celebrate our birthdays.  I had such a great time, I think it needs to be at least a monthly ritual!

Saturday and Sunday we went shopping and ran errands.  In between running errands, we took the boys to visit Grandma Hart.  She really loved seeing them!

Monday was picture day...and no, I'm not talking about the pictures that I take!  We took the boys to get their 6 month pictures taken.  Unfortunately, Lincoln decided to leave his smiles at home, but Jackson was smiling from ear to ear the whole time (probably because he got to take his helmet off)!  In the afternoon, we all got dressed up for pictures at church for the photo directory.  This time, Lincoln was a bit more cooperative, but Jackson wasn't.  Guess we can't have everything.  But we are excited to have our first official family picture to share with everyone soon.

Tuesday was a big day for us.  The boys officially turned 6 months old, and it was Lincoln's surgery day.  It started with us getting up at 5:30 in the morning to feed Lincoln (as he wasn't allowed to have any solid food after 6:30).  At 10:45, we headed to the hospital.  The Liberty Children's campus was great - very easy to get to, find our way around, and all the people were wonderful.  They checked us in, changed Lincoln into his hospital gown, gave him a book to play with, and walked us through the process of the whole procedure.  At a few mintues before 1:00, we handed Lincoln over to the anesthesiologist.  It was hard for me, but he was happy - looking around at all the women paying attention to him.  The surgery only took about 20 minutes, and everything went very well.  He is continuing to do well, is back to his normal self - we just need to be cautious and protect his private parts.

Tuesday afternoon the boys met their great Uncle Bob and great Aunt Norma for the first time.  Unfortunately, the boys were a bit fussy from the surgery and time spent at the hospital, so Aunt Norma didn't get to hold them for long.  However, we appreciated them stopping by and meeting our two little guys!

Wednesday we prepared for vacation - doing laundry, packing, making food to take with us.  We also spent a few hours in the afternoon with Grandma Hart so she could see for herself just how well Lincoln was recovering.  It was a very long and busy day.

Thursday, we left around 10:20 for Hocking Hills.  The boys were very good on the drive, and we arrived at the cabin around 1:15.  We had lunch, settled into the cabin, and enjoyed a great night of food, drinks, and visiting.  Friday, Brian and I went with my brother, sister and her husband on a Canopy Tour (ziplining) of the Hills.  Brian and I went ziplining in St. Lucia, but it was fun introducing Lyn, RJ, and Aaron to the thrill and fun!  In the afternoon, we took the boys the boys hiking for the first time.  We went to Ash Cave and Cedar Falls.  Everyone loved seeing all the natural beauty of the area.

Saturday was a relaxing day at the cabin.  We spent a lot of time outside on the deck, just relaxing, drinking, and spending time with the boys.  It was a great day!  Sunday, it was sadly time to pack up and head back home.

We loved our weekend away, but it was really good to be home and sleep in our own beds!

That's enough about us.  Now for the important thing...what the boys are up to.
Jackson:
  •  sitting up really well all on his own
  • working on some teeth
  • making great progress on reshaping his head - started at 20 mm measuring difference - down to 15 mm in just 3 weeks
  • Nickname=Crash (because of the helmet) or Scooter (he scoots across the floor a bit...using his helmet to slide his head)
Lincoln:
  • trying to crawl - he gets up on his knees and hands, then carefully scoots his legs forward, then moves his arms.  he gets about 3 good knee steps in, but then gets over excited and pushes a little hard with his one leg, and ends up rolling himself over.  Brian says he kind of looks like a bunny when he is doing it!
  • also working on some teeth
  • doing very well after his surgery - his glue came off his one incision, but the steri strip is still protecting the second one.  bruising is much better than it was originally.  back to trying to climb out of everything, so he is back to his normal self!
  • Nickname - Flipper (because he makes this cute little noise that sounds like a dolphin
It really is amazing how we have two babies, growing up in the same environment, and yet they each develop very different skills at different times.  We love watching each of them!

Grandparent update:
My mom is most likely going to have her surgery on September 13.
Nothing showed on my dad's tests...he went to see a gastroenterologist on Monday.
Grandma Hart has been doing well.  Off the vent more and more all the time.  Continuing to make progress!

Upcoming celebrations:
  • August 10 - Ralph and Janet Gels celebrate their 44th wedding anniversary
  • August 14 - Dennis' birthday
  • August 19 - Brady turns 8!
  • August 24 - Ryan and Tasha celebrate their 8th wedding anniversary
(if you have a celebration you'd like to share, please email it to me at Kate.Hart@mrsi.com)

Hope you all have a wonderful August! We'll write more soon!

Almost 6 months old!

As usual, we have all been very busy, and the boys have been growing and developing almost daily.

In our last post, I mentioned that Jackson had finally rolled over from his stomach to his back, and it was only a matter of time till he would start going the other way - well, it was 2 days.  Tuesday night, he rolled over a few times, and we can't stop him now!

Other firsts...
  • Saturday, July 3 - the boys had their first vegetables!  They ate peas for the first time!  They also had their first fruit (bananas) on July 14th.
  • Monday, July 5th the boys made their first trip to the neighborhood pool. They LOVED it. Jackson is right at home in the water...splashing and just relaxing and enjoying the refreshing cool water.
  • Sunday, July 11th the boys took a little dip in the kiddie pool at Aunt Lyn's.  They didn't even mind cousin Lylah splashing them!
Health:
June 30 we took Jackson to Children's to have his head evaluated.  Unfortunately, he was diagnosed with severe plagiocephaly and torticollis.  What does this mean?  Well, it means a lot of appointments!  Seriously.  Jackson will need to wear a helmet for the next 3-4 months to help control his head growth, which will result in a more rounded head (he currently has a bad flat spot on his left back side).  Jackson was fitted for his helmet on July 12th, and the next week we spent building up his tolerance for wearing it.  He's now up to wearing it 23 out of 24 hours a day, and he is doing really great with it.  He doesn't mind wearing it, which is a big relief.  We will have to take him back to the helmet shop every 2-3 weeks so that they can cut the foam out and adjust the fit for him.  (I told you it meant lots of appointments).

Jackson is also going to be going to physical therapy every other week to treat his torticollis.  Torticollis is when there is a muscle in the neck that is tight, which then restricts his range of motion. The therapy will help to stretch the tight muscle, and strengthen all of his other muscles.  We had our first session yesterday, and things went really well.  The therapist showed us other ways to do his therapy at home each day, and we are very excited about working with him and seeing his progress in the coming weeks.  We expect that we'll be going to therapy every other week up through Thanksgiving.  (see...lots of appointments).

Lincoln will be having surgery on Tuesday, July 27 (his 6 month birthday).  He was born with an undecended testicle, and they are going to do surgery to fix it.  Please say lots of prayers for mommy - she is going to need it!

Grandma Hart was moved to the Drake Center after the Fourth of July holiday.  We took the boys to visit her on July 17th - she just smiled the whole time.  However, since their visit, her therapy has been progressing greatly!  We pray she continues to recover quickly and can go back home soon.

Pawpaw Muehlfeld was the healthy grandparent here, but he decided to join the Grandmothers last week, looking for a bit of sympathy.  :-)  Dad went to the emergency room on Saturday and found out he has a bit of pneumonia, gall stones, and an ear infection.  Unfortunately, he is still having a lot of pain in his side and is undergoing some additional testing this morning to see if he needs to have his gallbladder out.  He's worried he might be having twins...they were hoping to confirm or deny with an ultrasound this morning.  We are awaiting the results.  (hehehe)

General
In between appointments, feedings, and changing diapers, we have found some time to visit with family.  Fourth of July weekend we visited with the Hart's at Stefani's graduation party on Saturday.  It was a beautiful day for being outside and enjoying the sunshine, yet cool enough to enjoy it.  Later that week, Lisa and Andrea stayed with us for a few nights.  Andrea was visiting colleges in the area.  The second weekend in July we went to visit Lyn, RJ, Lylah and Knox.  Their neighborhood had a get together where they roasted a hog, and did a potluck.  It was a great day of eating, drinking, and relaxing all while visiting.  Last weekend, Rachelle and the kids were passing through town on their way home from Gatlinburg, and met us at Graeter's for an ice cream treat.  It was Addison's birthday, and it was so nice to get to wish her happy birthday in person.

We are really looking forward to our trip to Hocking Hills next weekend for a relaxing get-a-way with mom and dad, the whole Willinger clan, and of course, Aaron.  I'm sure more food, drinks, fun and sun are in order!

Nicknames
We have dubbed the boys with new nicknames.
Lincoln is now "Flipper".
Jackson is now "Scooter" or "Crash".
Anyone want to venture a guess as to how they got their names?  We'll explain in our next post!

Please pray that all of our loved ones recover and get healthy in the near future!
We'll send another update soon (hopefully).

Love,
Kate, Brian, Lincoln and Jackson

Special celebrations:
  • Brian turned 40 on June 23
  • Brian and Kate celebrated the eighth anniversary of their first date on July 5
  • Addison turned 12 on July 17
  • Andrea turned 17 on July 20
  • Kate turned 36 on July 21

5 Months old!

We've been quite busy over the past few weeks, but we really haven't gotten a lot done.  How is that possible?

Father's day weekend, we traveled to my parents house to spend the weekend with Mawma and Pawpa, my brother Aaron, and my sister Lyn and her family.  The last time we were all there together was for my parent's 40th anniversary back in December!  Friday night was our typical get together - enjoying a few adult beverages, and staying up till 2:00 in the morning talking.  Unfortunately, the boys didn't stay up with us, so it was another night short on sleep, as our little guys like to get up early.  Saturday we went to visit Leota Maier (my Uncle's mother) as she made afghans for the boys, and she has adopted them as her great-grandchildren.  We really enjoyed our visit with her.  Early in the evening, we went to church where we got to see Great-Grandma Emmie.  She adores her great-grandson's - we only wish we could have visited with her more.  Sunday, my sister Rachelle and her kids joined us at my parents for breakfast and homemade ice cream.  It was a great ending to a perfect weekend.  We love spending time with everyone, and everyone adjusted well to having 4 little ones in Mawma and Pawpa's house!

However, being gone all weekend, we had a lot to catch up on at home.  Monday, the boys and I ran a few errands to get some things we needed.  Tuesday, Brian wasn't feeling well, so he stayed home from work.  Seems there must have been some sort of bug that half our family picked up over the weekend, as Mawma, Aunt Lyn, Uncle Aaron, and Brian were all sick last week.  By now, everyone is mostly recovered, but still very weak.

Last week, Brian celebrated a milestone birthday, but as he was feeling a bit under the weather on his actual birthday, we celebrated on Saturday.  He requested steak and potatoes for dinner, so we grilled some sirloins, made some real mashed potatoes, and topped it all off with homemade chocolate lava cake!  Very rich, but delicious.  We hope that Brian has a wonderful year, and we look forward to celebrating again next year!

The rest of the weekend went by way too fast.  I moved some things around in our living room, trying to make room for all of the boys things.  It's official - the kids now control the family room.  We tried to fight it, but the adults lost the battle.  For being two little boys, they sure require a lot of things (2 bouncers, a swing, an exersaucer, 2 bumbo chairs, and an activity matt!)

Saturday afternoon, the boys and I went and had lunch with my friend Jennie, so Jackson got a little spoiling from her.

Sunday the boys turned 5 months old, so we took a few pictures yesterday that we will share with everyone later in the week.  In between pictures, we went to church, then the boys and I napped while Brian went to visit Janice.  She is still in the SICU at University.  We still aren't sure when she will be moving to rehab.  When Brian returned home, we had a quick dinner, then went and picked up Brian's Father's day/Birthday gift from Uncle Aaron's house.  Just need to program the remote, then his new TV will be all set up in our bedroom.

The boys continue to grow and are so much fun.  Lincoln has been rolling around for quite some time, and he rolled clear across our bedroom floor yesterday.  Guess we need to start closing the door, or he'll be rolling down the stairs!  Jackson finally rolled over again yesterday (from his tummy to his back), and it's only a matter of time till he is rolling both ways and chasing after his brother.  We really need to get the house baby proofed!

We have a few fun activities this coming week.  We take Jackson to the doctor on Wednesday morning for the doctor's to look at his head.  He has plageocephaly, and he may need to have a custom helmet for the next few months to help the shape of his head.  This could be really fun!

Saturday, we have Stefani's graduation party in Fort Recovery, so we'll have more opportunities to visit with family and friends.  Hopefully then we can spend the rest of our weekend working on more things on our "to-do" list.

Well, I better get back to work.  Hope everyone enjoys the rest of June, and we'll write more later.
