My two little Harts...

Last week, my friend Barb sent me an email to let me know I should keep an eye out for a package that was coming.  My first instinct was to scold her...as she and Pat do try to spoil our boys.  But she was quick to mention that this time the package was for ME (not the boys).  I still wanted to scold her, but I usually don't win arguments with Barb.

When we got home from work Monday night, there was my package, resting against the garage door.  I had no idea what in the world the Brocki's might have sent for me.  When I opened the box, I found a sweet note from Barb.  She had seen this item, and the name, and just HAD TO GET IT for me.

Inside, I found a small box from Premiere Jewelry.  The name on the box was Two Hearts.

Inside, I found a beautiful bracelet, with two little heart charms.

It is sheer perfection.  I immeditately put it on, and showed the boys.  I explained that there are 2 hearts - a Jackson heart and a Lincoln heart - and that now Mommy can have her little Harts with her ALL THE TIME.  They touched the heart charms, and looked at me and said their little names.

I may just wear this bracelet EVERY DAY for the rest of my life so that I always have my Lincoln and Jackson with me.

Thank you so much dear friend...for finding exactly what I needed, even though I didn't know I did.

Another counting story...

We are getting our new front door put in today, so Brian is working from home.  Which means....I got some precious time alone in the van with the boys!

I love having small bits of time in the car with the boys alone.  We turn the radio/CD off, and talk or sing.  This morning, the boys were a bit concerned about where Daddy was (expecially after he was gone so much last week).  So, part of the drive was spent talking about "Daddy's seat" and "Where's Daddy".  Then, the "Bye Daddy" and "I love you Daddy" talk began.  Just melted my heart.

About half way to daycare though, we started talking about school buses, and I said we should count how many we see.  Jackson began counting....one...two...three...four...five...six...seven...eight...nine...ten...eleven...eight...nine...ten...

At first, I thought he just forgot where he was with his counting, but then he did it again...after eleven, he went back to eight.  I was a little stumped, but then it hit me.  Eleven sounds a lot like SEVEN!  So, he naturally goes back to eight after eleven.

Most days, I think Jackson is WAY TOO SMART!

Lincoln is very bright too...don't get me wrong.  Lincoln talks and articulates things better than Jackson.  But Jackson has that logic kind of smarts....very scary for a 2 year old!

Hope this little story brings a smile to your day.

Love to all!

Daddy Sandwiches...

The boys are coining all sorts of new phrases for us!

Lately, they have been asking for "Daddy Sandwiches" a lot.
(translation - they want the sandwiches that Daddy makes all the time - Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwiches!)

They even go and point to the bread, then go to the pantry (for the peanut butter), then they open the fridge door and say "Jelly!".

I guess since this is what Daddy has almost every day for lunch, they are now called "Daddy Sandwiches".

Yes, welcome to my world!

Saturday cousin time...

Peyten and Addison were playing soccer tournaments this past weekend here in the Cincinnati area, so we packed up the van (with the boys, Uncle Aaron and Scott) and treked down to check out the games.  We didn't get to see Peyten play (we were running a bit late), but we were able to catch most of Addison's game.

During the game, "Aunt Shelf" entertained Lincoln for quite a while by sharing her kettle corn with him.  He just sat on her lap and helped himself!  Jackson was more fascinated with the bleachers - trying to worm his way down to the ground from the top seats.

Toward the end of the game, the boys were getting a bit antsy, so we let them down.  Brady and his friends were sitting down at the end of the field, so we "sent" the boys down to see him.  For about 10 minutes, the boys just ran back and forth between the bleachers and Brady!  Lincoln was so out of breath from laughing and running, and Jackson was just happy as could be to be on the move.  Brady and his friends were great with the boys too - giving them high fives!

Addison's team played great, and they won their game, and actually the entire tournament!  Rachelle said Addison was the one who made penalty kicks to win the final match!  We are so proud of her!

After the game on Saturday, we headed to Panera so the kids could eat before their next games.  The boys fell asleep on the way there, so Brian stayed with the boys in the van while the rest of us went in.  I had a great time visiting with Peyten, Addison and Brady while they ate their lunch.  I now see how fast Rachelle's kids have grown up, and I have no doubt our boys will be teenagers in no time!

Overall, it was a great weekend until my killer headache kicked in Sunday afternoon.  The weather has been beautiful, but it is killer for allergies!

Hope everyone has a great week!

Dinosaurs and Guitars

Each day, we are amazed at all of the things the boys are learning and saying.  They are talking like big boys more and more all the time.  But every once in a while, we aren't just amazed but completely astounded!

Saturday was one of those days.

First, we were reading books after breakfast, and talking about different animals.  Out of the blue, Jackson starts talking about dinosaurs!  There weren't any in the book that we were reading, but he definitely said dinosaur.  Brian and I both giggled a little bit and shook our heads in disbelief.

A little while later, Lincoln decided he couldn't be outdone by his little brother, so he just starts talking about guitars!  Brian and I both did a double take again, and shrugged our shoulders.

These boys are getting so smart, and using such big grown up words!

The new "Slug Bug"

Remember being a kids, and playing "Slug Bug" in the car?

Welcome to today's version.  The boys are fascinated with school buses!  We see them a lot on our drive to daycare in the morning, and I swear it is a little game they play.  They are watching out the windows, just looking for them so they can be the first to call out "School bus!"

At least they aren't hitting each other...yet!

Learning and Counting...

The boys are total sponges.

They are picking up on everything around them, and soaking it all in.  Mostly good, but unfortunately, they have picked up on a few bad words that mommy and daddy say!

A few weeks ago, we worked with the boys on a few little "learning" things.
They now know:
- Cows make milk (if you ask them what a cow makes, they will tell you - Cows make milk!)
- Bunnies eat carrots

We are working on Monkies eat bananas, but that got a little sidetracked this week.
They are working on learning their colors at daycare this week, and Lincoln brought two little plastic monkeys to his teacher the other day and said "brown".  He was so excited.  So, instead of "What do monkeys eat", we now ask "What color is a monkey", and he says "brown".  He gets so excited!

Pawpaw I think was a bit surprised this past weekend when each of the boys counted to 10 for him!
In addition to counting, they are able to sing most of the A-B-C song too!

It's amazing how much little ones learn, and how quickly!

Now that spring is here, they love looking at all the flowers blooming, and the trees budding.  I think we'll need to spend a lot of time outdoors this spring/summer!

Behind on teeth....

I realized I haven't done such a good job in 2012 in documenting our "tooth" progress.

Just after the boys birthday, in early February, Jackson finally got 2 of his I-teeth in (the ones on the right side of his mouth).  Hard to say which one came in first...they both came at about the same time (and boy did we know it).

Well, last week his bottom left one finally poked through, and is growing like crazy.

Haven't seen the top one yet, but sure it isn't far behind.

No new teeth for Lincoln. I keep checking for his 2 year molars when I brush his teeth.  Guess he's just waiting for Jackson to catch up.

Happy Thursday!

Old MacDonald reigns...

I know that I've mentioned Old MacDonald a few times in previous posts.
I think it was when we took the boys to the pumpkin patch that we first deciphered E-I-E-I-E-I-E-I was what was coming out of Lincoln's mouth.  We were overjoyed when he finally put the O on the end.

From there, we transitioned into Brian or I signing most of the song, and the boys just making the animal noises.

Then, they wanted to start picking the animals, and doing the noises (just for the record, COWS was always the first animal they chose).

Probably a month ago, we started hearing Jackson sing "Ol' McNonald had a firm, E-I-E-I-O".  Over, and over, and over again.

Now, they can pretty much sing the whole song (although they need help getting back on track from time to time).

Well, on Monday this week, we saw Miss Sally (the cook) at the boys daycare when we dropped the boys off.  He made a comment about how big the boys were getting, and just how darn cute they are when they start singing E-I-E-I-O!  We didn't think much about it at the time, cause the boys sing a lot of songs.  But, then this week Miss Cathy made a comment to me about how the boys start the signing almost everyday at lunchtime...and then the whole class sings with them.  And even yesterday, Miss Vicky (who had the boys 2 rooms ago) also mentioned how cute it is when the boys start singing E-I-E-I-O.  And they sing it everyday!

I'm not sure if the boys just love animals, or if it's the combination of the song and letters that fascinates them.  I'm taking this as a postivie - they are natural leaders, and aren't embarrassed to sing in public!  Course, we already knew they were fine with singing in public...after all, we've heard E-I-E-I-O in church even a few times!

Weekend sweet spots...

This past weekend, we traveled to Toledo to support and celebrate my niece Addison's Confirmation.  It was a beautiful day for the middle of March, and God's presence was evident with the sunlight streaming in the church windows.

After the ceremony, we headed to the Young's for the celebration.  We spent most of our time outside with the boys as it was just gorgeous out - and they LOVE being outside.

The boys also loved Aunt Rachelle's swing set.  It didn't take long for them to figure out how to climb the rungs to get up in the tree house so they could go down the slide.  A little while later, Jackson even figured out how to go up the rock climbing wall - all by himself.  They enjoyed swinging, and just running around the fenced yard.

A few highlights:
  • I spent some precious one on one time with Jackson - all my little man wanted to do was sit on the swing, have mommy push him, and sing songs.  Lots of songs.  I bet we did this for close to a half hour.  It reminded me of the many, many hours I used to spend with Peyten and Addison pushing them on the swings singing songs.
  • Watching the boys meet Sampson (the Young's golden retriever) - at first, they were just so excited to see a "pup pup" running through the yard.  They wanted to chase him.  Then, Addison brought Sampson over to see the boys, and they were suddenly hesitant.  Daddy helped ease them into petting the doggie, and before long, they were both loving Sampson.
It was a beautiful day, and we were so grateful to be able to spend it with Addison.

After the party, we were driving back to Lyn's house, and I was telling Brian about how I used to spend a lot of time with Rachelle's girls on the swings...singing Little Bunny Foo-Foo over and over again.  To my surprise, the boys got all excited in the backseat, insistently saying "Bunny song!".  Evidently, they have learned Little Bunny Foo-Foo at school!  As I started singing it, the boys joined in, and even shared their little hand motions with me!  We sang the song over and over and over until we reached Aunt Lyn's house.  I never thought that a memory made 10+ years ago would be made new with my own boys.

Sunday, we continued singing Little Bunny Foo-Foo in the van on the way to church.  Church didn't quite go as we had hoped.  We are so thankful that Fr. Joe at Little Flower is so understanding.  As we were trying to sneak out during the final song, I heard someone calling to us - Wait!  I turned around, and there was Fr. Joe.  He just looked at us and said "Wow, you had those two in the back of church here almost the whole time, didn't you?"  And he laughed.  So glad that he noticed!

Sunday was another beautiful day - a little chilly compared to Saturday - but still the sun was shining.  It was perfect for Lylah's birthday party.  Brian took the boys outside to play while I helped Lyn get things ready for the party.  We had brunch on the patio, and spent more time chasing the boys around.  Thankfully it was all family and friends because Brian and I had a hard time keeping track of both the boys!

Sunday highlights:
  • Seeing the expression on the boys face when they first saw Lylah's Monkey Birthday cake (that Aunt Lyn made) - we love monkeys in our house!  It was all we could do to keep Lincoln from climbing on the table and getting into the frosting!
  • Asking Pawpaw to watch the boys with their cake and ice cream - Lincoln's ice cream ended up on the garage floor.  Being a good boy, he ate his cake, but then wanted some ice cream.  Pawpaw's plate was right there, so Lincoln helped himself to it.  It really was sweet watching Pawpaw and Lincoln share!  And if you could have only seen how much chocolate the boys had on their hands and faces from the cake....oh my!
  • Losing Jackson - I had Jackson in the house to change his diaper.  I put him down and went to wash my hands and he was gone.  Brian was in the garage, and I asked him if he knew where Jackson had went - he told me he had to be in the house cause he hadn't seen him come through the garage.  We searched the whole house, backyard, and the garage.  No sign of him!  We found him in the front yard playing in the slide/playhouse without anyone else around.  We figure he must have went out the front door and shut it behind him!
  • On the drive home, Brian needed some rest so I took over driving responsibilities.  The boys were awake in the backseat.  Suddenly I heard Lincoln repeatedly saying "Daddy sleeping" - very loudly.  It seemed the more I told him to be quiet, the louder he got.  Somehow, Daddy slept through it all!
Life seems to have so much more meaning now that we have our boys.  Hope everyone else enjoyed the sunshine, and found the "bright spots" in their weekend!

Emotional roller coaster...

Being a parent involves highs and lows.  But with twin 2 year olds, these highs and lows come more frequently.

I've tried to spare you all the "terrible two's" stories...as we are really trying to focus on the positive instead of the negative.  But last week, we had an experience that will break your heart one moment, and melt it into total goo the next - it did mine!

It started at 4:00 in the morning when we heard Lincoln crying.  Not just a little whimper, but full out upset, crying at the top of his lungs.  I nudged Brian to go take care of him (lately, Lincoln has been all about "Daddy do it" and he won't even let me get him out of his bed).  As Brian crawled out of bed and headed down the hallway, I heard Jackson begin crying.  Reluctantly I crawled out of bed and headed down the hallway too.  We were ALL up!

I scooped Jackson up, and we sat in the rocking chair so I could try to get him to go back to sleep. However, Lincoln wasn't settling down, so neither was Jackson.  Brian tried everything, and Lincoln continued to cry.  Brian took Lincoln out of the boys room, but when he did Jackson wanted to follow.  We all ended up on the floor in the guest room.  We got some water for Lincoln, asked him if he needed medicine (if anything hurt) - all we heard was "No!" and more crying.

It got to a point where Lincoln didn't even want Daddy to hold him - but wanted him near by.  So, there was our little man, curled up on the floor near us, crying his eyes out.  And all we could do was let him.  There was no consoling him.  Jackson curled up on my lap next to Lincoln, and when I started slowly rubbing Lincoln's back, Jackson did the same.

We did this for close to 20 minutes until the cries subsided and he settled down.  He then asked for some water, and took a big drink to quench his thirst.

Within 5 minutes he was smiling and laughing, and randomly looked at me and said "Love you Mommy!".

And with that smile, and those 3 little words, all of the frustration and anguish of the night was gone.  Being a Mom is the best job in the world.

    No one is talking...

Today was a rough day in our house.

I'm still fighting through the lingering symptoms of the flu.  After feeling great yesterday, I woke up this morning with serious stomach cramps.  Brian took care of the boys this morning so I could rest.  I managed to make some lunch for all of us, but when the boys went down for their nap, it was nap time for me too.

We put the boys down for their nap, and made it clear they should stay in their beds until we got them out.  Jackson has figured out how to get out of his bed, so we have to remind him to stay put!

Brian was working on some filing upstairs, so when the monitor battery went dead, I didn't worry about it, as I knew he would hear the boys.  Plus, I was pretty sure that Lincoln was already sleeping, and Jackson was just laying in bed singing.

So, imagine my surprise when Brian woke me up with a concerned look on his face.  He calmly told me that the boys had locked themselves in their room.

Luckily, it had only been an hour since we put them down for their nap, so we knew we had some time to figure out how to get the door opened.  Brian tried to pick the lock with a bobby pin, but it wasn't working.  We searched to see if we had a key for the door, but didn't find any.  Thankfully, Brian was able to take the doorknob off, and the door opened.

But this is where the mystery begins.

We were expecting to see Jackson sleeping on the floor in the room, but he was still in his bed.  Both the boys were in their beds.  But the light was also on in their room.

As best as we can figure, one of the boys got out of their bed, turned on the light, and tried to open the door - which is how it got locked.  When they couldn't get out of the room (we have the door handle safety things on), they must have somehow climbed back into their bed and went to sleep.

We thought the boys might talk...but they aren't saying anything!  Jackson gives us a little bit of a smirk when we ask him if he got out of his bed, but that's all we are getting!

I think the next few years are going to be quite challenging for us!

    Some firsts to share

This past Friday evening was an interesting night for us.

Unfortunately, everyone in our family has been sick this week...all at different times.  Friday was the first that we were all back to work/daycare.  Of course, mother nature decided to shake things up, and at 4:00, Brian and I were franticly leaving work, rushing to get the boys from daycare, and get home safely before the tornados hit the area.

The weather downtown looked scary....and it was all they were talking about on the radio.  Brian questioned if we should have left work, but I really just wanted to have my babies in my arms.  The weather got better the further north we went, and actually, the sun was out by the time we got home.  We were very lucky that the weather stayed south and east of where we live.  We never even went to the basement.

After we picked the boys up from daycare, we were trying to keep them quiet so we could listen to the weather on the radio - but they are two.  They didn't understand what was going on - just that it was raining out side, and mommy was all wet from it!  However, from the chatter in the backseat, we heard something new that made Brian and I both chuckle.  We heard "Lincoln Joseph!" come out of Jackson's mouth!  Evidently, we've evened out the full name calling for both boys!  It's been repeated a few more times this weekend, and it still makes us smile.

But we can't have a first for one boy and not the other...so later that night I was talking to my parents to let them know everything here was fine, and I watched Lincoln do a sommersault!  Yes...all by himself.  He put his little hands and his head on the ground, pushed off with his feet, and over he went.  He even stayed pretty straight!  I couldn't believe it.  Of course, he won't do it again for daddy!

Hope everyone is having a great weekend!
