2 more days...

Two more days before the big FIRST birthday!
We are feverishly preparing for the big party on Saturday.  We are greatly looking forward to celebrating this first birthday with our close family and friends.

Uncle Rodney and Uncle Dennis will be arriving from Phoenix on the boys birthday (Thursday), but we have to wait till Saturday to see them.  The boys have never met Uncle Dennis in person, and Uncle Rodney hasn't seen them since the Sunday after they were born.  BOY- is he going to be surprised by how much they've changed!

Some other news to report - Brian's mom has been having some difficulty swallowing, so she is going to see her surgeon tomorrow (Wednesday).  They are going to scope and dialate her throat (stretch it out), which hopefully will rectify her issues.  Please say a few prayers that everything goes well!

Hope everyone has a great week.  We'll post details regarding our birthday celebrations late this weekend or early next week...along with some pics or video, I'm sure.

Love,
Kate, Brian, Lincoln, and Jackson

Walking and Talking....and upright.

Here is a great video of Jackson walking and talking at the same time....and you won't have to tilt your head for this one!

A typical day....

Wanted to share a snapshot of a normal day with all of you.
In the beginning, you can hear the boys saying "uh-oh".  The main portion is the boys fighting over their toy laptop.  They fight over everything.  They can each have a sippy cup, but they want the one that their brother has - not their own.

Brotherly love...

As you can see, the boys are inseparable sometimes.  But they do have their squabbles.  Watch till the end when you see why Jackson doesn't have much hair - Lincoln is pulling it out!

Long day...

Well, we experienced a new "first" last night, but one I hope we don't repeat for a while.
Jackson had the flu for the first time ever!
Unfortunately, Brian was sick yesterday, and Jackson was about 24 hours behind him.
Everyone seems to be doing better tonight, but we'll see how it goes!

Bye Bye Bottles and Big Boy Car Seats

Oh how I wish every weekend was a three day weekend!
We had such a relaxing, yet productive long weekend.

The boys have 2 accomplishments from the weekend to share:
  1. For the second weekend in a row, the boys drank their milk out of a sippy cup.  They are doing so well that I packed up half the bottles on Monday!  They still get a bottle at bedtime, but planning on weaning them off that next weekend.  I can't tell you how happy I will be to put all the bottles away!
  2. The boys had their very first car ride facing forward Tuesday morning! We swapped out the carrier car seats for the big boy car seats.   I don't think they realized it on the morning commute, but when we picked them up from daycare, they were all smiles in their new seats.  They must be comfortable, as both the boys fell asleep on the drive home.
Here is what we were up to this weekend:
Saturday
  • Brian spent the day in Fort Recovery working on the floors in his Grandmother's house.
  • I went shopping with my brother Aaron for food for the boys birthday party.
  • The boys became HUGE fans of Graeter's Black Raspberry Chip ice cream.  :-)
Sunday
The whole family went to church, then made our weekly trip to the grocery store.

Monday
  • We spring cleaned the family room - knocked down cobwebs and cleaned the baseboards.
  • We wiped down the kitchen cabinets, and also the cupboards in the downstairs bathroom.
  • We cleaned out the window seat storage - boxing up all the stuff the boys have been trying to get into.
  • We washed up bedding and the car carriers so they could be put away.  Definitely a transitional period for us - putting away the "baby" items, and making the house more toddler friendly.

Yesterday it was back to work, but we plan to spend the week continuing to work on things around the house to prepare for our guests in a week and a half.  Hard to believe a week from tomorrow the boys turn ONE!

Hope everyone had a great weekend, and that the week ahead is a good for all as well.

Love,
Kate, Brian, Lincoln and Jackson

Jackson Walking...

Well, evidently I didn't have the camera held the right way, and I can't figure out how to turn it. So, just tilt your head to the side and enjoy! (I'll try to remember for any future videos that I have to keep the camera upright)

Lincoln and Jackson playing

We've got shoes!

This past weekend was a productive, but very tiring weekend.
Brian went to Fort Recovery on Saturday for the day to take care of some things with his grandmother's house - which meant I had 2 boys all by myself.  We ate some breakfast, got everyone dressed, and decided to run some errands.
First, we went to Party City to get a few things for the upcoming first birthday bash.  Then we made a quick stop into Target to pick up a prescription and a few other items.  Lastly, we went to Costco to stock up on some needed items.  Things went fairly well until I gave the boys a sample of chicken nuggets at Costco - without having all of my shopping done.  Just a small taste of food wasn't cutting it for my growing boys.  So, after the chicken nugget, we sampled some yogurt, then begged a few crackers off another worker providing samples.  The crackers were a lifesaver, as it allowed me to finish the shopping, and get checked out.
The boys fell asleep in the car on the way home (even though its only a 5 minute drive).  I left the boys sleeping in their car seats while I unloaded all of our purchases, started some laundry, and made lunch.  They took about an hour nap!  When they awoke, we had some lunch, then settled in for some play time.  The afternoon was a lot of fun, other than the boys wouldn't leave the TV alone. Unfortunately, they spent a lot of time in the Pack-N-Play, but they didn't seem to mind.  (I'll post more videos that we took last Saturday).
Brian came home around 8:00 - just in time to finish feeding the boys their bottles, and put them to bed.  Whew!  I was exhausted.
Sunday, we went to 11:00 church, as the boys slept in till almost 8:00.  After church, we drove up to the outlet mall in Monroe, OH.  We had a little bit of lunch, bought the boys their first pairs of shoes (guess I need to take some pictures of them), and had an interesting experience of changing their pants in the family restroom.  After that, we were ready to just go home!
The rest of the day we spent time together, enjoyed dinner, and went to bed early.
This week has been a long one, as we haven't gotten a whole lot of sleep.  Jackson finally broke his top right front tooth through, but he has some more coming.  Because of that, he hasn't been sleeping well, and neither has Lincoln.  We are trying to get through this phase with some tough love, and trying to let them cry themselves to sleep, but still means we are up quite a bit in the night.  I know, this too shall pass, and I'm trying to be patient.
Looking forward to the 3 day weekend ahead, as we have lots of things to do around the house to prepare for the boys party in a few weeks.  Wish us luck!
Hope you all have a great weekend!
Love,
Kate, Brian, Lincoln, and Jackson

Videos! Jackson and the bouncer

This is a few weeks old, but worth sharing!
The background....
We were home due to the weather, so I took some vacation time to spend with the boys.
It was time for their bottles, and it is hard to feed two boys at once, so I decided I would sit them in their bouncer chairs and give them their bottles.  Well, they weren't staying in the bouncers, so I had a thought - I would try strapping them in.  (OK - so it seemed like a great idea at the time).  Watch the video and see how it all worked out for me!

A busy year...and lots of changes

Happy 2011!
We are only a week into the new year, and yet so many things have happened.

Our first big event was actually New Years Eve.  Mawma and Pawpa agreed to watch the boys for the weekend.  Brian and I needed a bit of a break, as well as an opportunity to spend some time with each other.  So, the boys spent their first night (and second night) away from mommy and daddy!  We heard they were great all weekend, and Brian and I were thankful for the chance to catch up on our rest.  The boys have been a little more clingy this week, but its gotten better as the week has went on.

The boys are now full-time Tiny Tots!  They were transitioned permanently on Monday.  It was a bit of a surprise when we picked them up as we were told they would be moving in two weeks.   But, the new caregivers insist that the boys are adjusting very well.  Lincoln is smitten with the younger girls already (he's a charmer), and although Jackson had a rough time with me leaving him yesterday morning, he did much better today.
It's always interesting to hear what new people have to say about our boys.  After only a week, I've already heard that they can't believe what good eaters they are!  (I actually think their appetities are growing - as they are eating more and more all the time)  The caregivers also commented yesterday that they are ALWAYS together.  They have laughed at how one will put his finger in the other ones mouth.  Then they switch, and then go off and play.  There is another set of twins in their room, and they don't spend much time together.  They find it endearing that the boys like spending time together and are so close.

So, with the changes last weekend and at daycare, its been a bit of a challenging week with the boys...but we've survived!

Just to add to the fun, Jackson is working on cutting some teeth.  His one top tooth is so very close to popping through.   He has some others that are close behind, so he'll likely have as many teeth as Lincoln before too long.  We'll keep you updated!

Jackson had therapy this afternoon for his Torticollis.  Our session didn't go very well...mostly as Jackson is very attached to Mommy this week.  The only times he would cooperate and do his therapy was when I was holding him.  However, Ms. Erin did say he is holding his head up pretty straight when he's crawling - we just need to get him to do it in his other positions as well (sitting, standing, walking).  More work to do, but it was more encouraging than our session a few weeks ago.

One last thing to share...Jackson is now officially WALKING.  He walked around the kitchen quite a bit tonight.  He would go from the fridge to the stove, then over to the table, then back to the fridge.  He doesn't go fast, but he's definiely taking 8-10 steps between objects.  It's exciting and scary all at the same time.  But ready or not, here they come!

Well, that is most of the highlights of the week.  We do hope everyone has a prosperous and happy new year.  May 2011 hold health, happiness, and prosperity for everyone!

Love,
Kate, Brian, Lincoln, and Jackson
